These were snow fleas... way too cold still for blackflies. All food was in airtight containers, and it was fine. No problem at all. We have another fridge in the barn, but the electricity to run it when it's not full is too much. We use the snow whenever possible to save both energy and money.

No, msina is right.... you really can only go with the sea smoke. That's why these buggers are seen more inland than on the coast.
