Hubby was out for couple hours in the morning and saw nothing. I sat in the tree stand for more than two hours mid afternoon over a favorite heath. All I saw was one hunter about 75 yards from me try to bleat and then rattle for deer. He then fell asleep for the rest of the time. Southern ME has no shortage of whitetail, but all the sign shows them active at night. they very skillfully recognize the signs and hide in the deep wetlands or as close to houses as they can.
There didn't seem to be much hunting pressure. I guess the lower gas prices has people travelin' north. Should be an interesting season!

I saw three. One nice buck that ran toward a highway so I could not take a shot. One doe that I was surprized by with my gun slung on my shoulder and the third one was a little tiny skipper that was too small to shoot. Pretty encouraging for opening day. We did not spook them much so they should stick around....we'll get 'em!

Steve saw one doe three times and what might have been a spike horn. We can't shoot does here. I saw a bluejay, a hairy woodpecker and a chickadee. Steve found a tree a buck has been scraping with his horns out back today.

Little Sunday hunting eh?
( I was doing the same thing!) No guns though!

Our Sunday hunting consists of following the dog's nose. He's an excellent indicator of where they bed down during the day. From the tree stand I spooked several chickadees and nuthatches that were quite annoyed with my presence! The bluejays were downright obnoxious!

Yup. And do you know what I saw today? Two partridge. I think I heard them laugh at me.

I saw one yesterday but didn't have a shotgun and didn't think I could hit it in air with the rifle.

My spot for tomorrow morning is all set. I don't think I'm going to be very good at deer hunting alone. I don't sit still and do nothing well. I've kind of thought about taking my laptop so I can write.
