He's a poult. When I checked the water and temp in the incubator I found a pipped egg and two others rocking. I let the water dry up twice in the last month so I'm a little concerned about hatching. We'll see.

At my house this morning. They're working so hard the eggs rock back and forth. They've been peeping since the day before yesterday.

That is a 'little Giant incubator', it looks just like ours!

Our next batch is due to hatch 1June. This will be our third hatching this season.

I would presume that those eggs are being turned by hand. Everyday each egg must be rotated, to rest on a different side. So you mark them and like on even days the mark must be on top, on odd days the mark must be underneath. Or something like that.

I paid the extra $ for an electric turner that fits inside our 'Little Giant incubator'. On a timer very slowly the eggs are turned automatically. So I do not mark our eggs anymore.

YouTube - Poults Hatching

It's a number 1. The eggs due to hatch today were put in the incubator on May 1. There are 3's in there that will start hatching Saturday. After that it's up to five ducks. There are two turkeys with two dozen eggs in a new nest. They insist on co-nesting and the eggs get broken as they jostle around for the best place to sit or the most eggs. I broke up one nest when five hens insisted on setting together. If these two don't figure this out in a day or two I'll break them up by bringing most of the eggs into the incubator and locking one hen up with the rest.

My goal for the turkeys this year is to make them pay for themselves. I can't afford to feed them organically this year, it's just too expensive. I'll sell enough poults and Thanksgiving turkeys to break even this year, overwinter only three or four birds rather than 10, and see what the $$ looks like in April, 09.
