Blue Hill has its own schools in fact of the neighboring towns most bus their students to the High School in Blue Hill. I grew up in Blue Hill its a lovely small town. Close to Ellsworth 30 min commute on most days. Blue Hill has a Great Library and the Elementary School was enlarged about 15 years ago. The Crime is Low. The only objection I have to Blue Hill and the area is most times the side walks roll up at 9-10pm at night. I am a late nighter due to shift work So there wasnt much for me to do after the sun went down. All though there is some great theater groups in the area. Also Ellsoworth has the Grand Theater which is with in driving distance. So if you want a quiet smallish town with good schools and good hearted people Blue Hill is for you.

Blue Hill actually has more schools than most surrounding areas, and a new one is opening this year:

Peninsula Montessori (actually in Sedgwick, but only 10 minutes from BH.)
Blue Hill Consolidated School
The Bay School
The Liberty School
George Stevens Acadamy
(and the new one I can't remember the name of...I'll post back after I have a look at the newspaper today..)

Smudgers... you're funny. Everything in Hancock county (except for Ellsworth and the gas station in Bucksport) closes up by 9:00...

roflol don't I know it... One thing I hated about the area to get to a Major concert you had to go to Bangor , Portland or Boston. It was like you had to take vacation days to see a "Big" Named artist.

Wow, that's purty late! In Machias, used to be they'd roll up the sidewalks at 6:00 (but that was back in the '60s & '70s). Not the same now, the Esso station is gone, along with the Western Auto that used to sell some pretty good slingshots and had a display of pocket-knives that would make an 8-year old drool.

Back in my day, Brooklin rolled up the sidedwalks at 5 p.m. And the store was not open on Sundays, so if you didn't get what you needed before Monday, you were out of luck.
We used to go to the movies and bowling in Ellsworth. In the summer, we would go to movies at the Opera House in Stonington. Or a dance at the Legion Hall. Ah, the good old days!
