You might consider putting an ad in the Sedgwick/Brooklin/Blue Hill stores or in the Weekly Packet. If I should talk to my brother (in Brooklin) in the next few days, I will ask him if he knows who it might be.

"Actually, there are two elementary schools in Blue Hill. The public school is one, and there is a private school called "The Bay School" which is located there."

True, but it is not public. I was only mentioning the public elementary school. The Bay School is a Waldorf School and goes through 8th grade. You can look into the Waldorf philosophy online (AWSNA dot com I think)--most either love it or hate it.

In addition to public schools, there is also the Liberty School for 9th-12th grade. This is an "alternative" high school. Info. online.

There is a local Blue Hill paper which announces births. I don't know whether that was done then...but it's worth a look. Also, they told me at Blue Hill Hospital that there are about 300 births a year there. This is SUCH a low number compared with larger hospitals, and Blue Hill is bigger now than it was in 1968...I wonder if you could take a look at their birth records (is that public info?). On many days, even now, only one child is born on any given day, so you may get lucky?

Good luck!

The name of the paper is the Weekly Packet. They have a website.
There is also the Ellsworth American, and they have a webesite too.
Good luck in your search.

Hey Michael,

Have you given any thought to the possibility that your birth mom might have had you (what used to be called) out of wedlock? Blue Hill is a very tight town when it comes to keeping secrets and it's possible an 'illegitimate' birth might not have been reported in the local paper. The Packet might still be a good place to run a personal ad asking for info. I assume you've checked adoption agencies already and run into the brick wall of confidentiality.

Just discovered this forum. I know this is from last spring but if you're still looking, good luck.

John, born Blue Hill October '62.

Michael- you may also want to keep in mind that Blue Hill Memorial Hospital serves several small towns outside of Blue Hill proper- Stonington, Deer Isle, Brooklin, Brooksville, Sedgwick, Penobscot, Orland, Castine, and also people from Bucksport, Ellsworth, Trenton, etc. use BHMH for their OB/GYN services.

I (and my son, too!) were born at BHMH.

Hippy Crunchy? Sounds like Hallowell. But compared to Blue Hill? Its your typical New England "Rte 1" area (full of antique shops)
