Trader Joes in Indiana may have Fiddleheads--I bought them in Philadelphia--I'm sure very few folks here knew what they were.
Their flavor, and texture (but not their shape) reminded be of lightly cooked asparagus--but not just the same.
I emailed Trader Joe's, and this is the response I got....hmmmmm.

I imagine they mean they don't have them in stock right now. I did buy them at Trader Joe's in Philadelphia, but it may have been as much as a year ago. If you post their email, I'll contact them also. Maybe others will too. Then when the Fiddlehead season comes around again, they will know there is a customer base. I imagine that some of our friends in Maine can pick their own Fiddleheads?
Here's the link to send them an email...I responded to Amy in Customer Relations, but it bounced back to me saying that address does not accept incoming mail...
Oh, also according to some research I had done a week or so ago, McCain foods over in Canada produces frozen packages of Fiddleheads, but I couldn't find any sales information on where I might beable to purchase...may have to send them an email and see if they can give me store names they distribute to...
I don't know if you have a Trader Joes near you, but last year they sold bags of fresh fiddleheads. I'm hoping they will again, as I found them very tasty. Of course fresh is seasonal-- and I can't remember just when that was.
Really, Trader Joe's sold them?? I have never seen them here in AZ at TJ's. Were they next to the frozen asparagus??? What time of the year did you see them??
i use to pick hundreds of thousands of fiddleheads when i was a kid (along the banks of the kennebec), i had some favorite places, that no one else went to,, of course i sold them dirt-cheap,,,being a kid and being 30 yrs ago..
i havent seen too many fiddleheads frozen,,,,mostly canned, a good idea for some enterprising person,,,

They were available for just a couple of weeks here in Philly. Must have been Spring although I don't remember. They were in a sealed plastic bag with other fresh vegetables. Norcliff in Canada sold them to TJ's acc. their Web site.
When are Fiddleheads in season? We're visiting Maine in May, and I'd love to try some fresh ones.
