Interesting how the Park Service hasn't bothered to take these signs down---out of obligation, not because they don't agree.

I believe that Quinby has withdrawn that. At least there was something about that a few weeks ago in the Bangor Daily news.

Maybe the department of the interior should do away with the national park system and hand jurisdiction of them back to the states. Local control is more reliable than Washington politicians any day.

This will work for rich states. A poor state like Maine, doesn't have the resources to deal with that, unless the feds pay them. Plus there is no real protection for the park then.

DH just came home from an Forest Resources Association meeting. Quimby's son spoke this evening. They are still working toward a national park. She's opened 40,000 acres to traditional outdoors activities in Eliotsville.

The Acadia Corporation, which runs the concessions in the park and has done so since the 1930's, as well as Jordan Pond House, has been ousted by a decision of the NPS in Philadelphia. The got the best marks on a competitive bid which has zero input from anyone in the local park, in the local community, or in fact, anyone in the state of Maine at any level.

They will be importing blueberries from New Mexico, and lobsters from the gulf. All Native American crafts will be from the Southwest, and not from local Native American populations.

It is estimated that through loss of jobs, and local community, we will lose about 1.5 million dollars to Maine, simply because some huge corporation in new Mexico greased the wheels of the park service with more money than Acadia Corporation could do, or even knew that they should be doing. I doubt that any local person will ever go to the Pond House again, or recommend it to anyone.

Our government in action. We deserve what we get.

You are right, slyfox. NM has better lobbyists than we do.

Irrelevant. This is done via federal block grants back to the states, the only changes would be the state of Maine would get the $20 per car user fee, the rangers would become state employees not federal, and Dirty Harry, Crazy Barry and Johnny Boner would get one less political football.

Anyone else think that the federales are trying to make the shutdown as big of a pain in the butt as possible?
