So when do you feel it's necessary to start using the heater? Also when do you finally turn on that AC?
AC? We don't need no stinkin' AC!!! lol I'm a bit NE of Lincoln, Maine. We NEEDED to heat the house at least a t night by the beginning of October. It's in the 30's today,... we still need heat here. We do use a woodstove to help offset the fuel oil. My house has had an energy audit, it' well insulated. We went through approx. 300 gallons of oil and a couple cords of wood this winter.

It is spring MBM, you're right. It is also still pretty darned cool at night. Seven deer in the yard, I went out on the deck and I didn't bother them at all, two were within twenty feet of me. They're so comfortable it seems like they'll be coming up on the deck to visit soon.

We are due for a low of 15 degrees tomorrow morning, but we should get above freezing tomorrow afternoon. Then it's about 25 above on Saturday morning followed by a few days with no frosts. I think I'll move my camper tomorrow because we are going camping next weekend for the first time this year. Next weekend is the Patriots Day Appleseed shoot and we won't miss that, snow or not.

Spring?? No way, not yet. Last year spoiled us. On this day last year (April 7th) I mowed my lawn!! This year it's covered in snow and the nightly temperatures are dipping into the 20's still. Today was the second day my deck has been clear of snow since last December. The first one was a week ago today just before we got a foot of wet snow. There were some woodcock around at sunset which is a good sign and the geese are coming in too but the pond behind the inlaw's house is still frozen tight. Spring is coming slowly this year. It's 9:00 PM right now and 29 degrees. With 50 degree nights I'd be outside sitting on the patio! If you're comfortable outside at 29 degrees have at it!

I've still got a little bit of snowbank from the plow guy in my driveway. We got so much snow this year, and he didn't start on the first storm by pushing it back far enough. A month ago the paved driveway that can hold 8 cars could only hold 3, IF we parked them just right and in a kind of row. So, we've lost a lot of snow, but not all of it. We did pull out the basketball hoop a couple of weeks ago, but we were "taking the ball out" on the snowbanks and only had less than half court! Breaking up the snow and ice help~ it doesn't take a rocket scientist to explain that small chunks of snow and ice disappear faster than larger ones~ but, sometimes when it's packed really hard, and melted and froze, melted and froze, you just can't break it up. Today, it's going to get soft enough that I can break it up I think. But, the snowbanks on the other side of the driveway are going to be there for quite a while. The good news is we won't need a loader to clear the ballfields so baseball and softball can start!

We have snow in shaded areas. Since most of my land is forested, it still has snow. Patchy, up to a foot deep in places, other places is mud.
