Hi! My family is planning on moving to CA in a few months. My parents have a good job opportunity in Claremont, so I've been researching safe, decent, middle-class neighborhoods in that area. Unfortunately, it seems that every place around Claremont (La Verne, Pomona, Upland, Montclair) has very scary crime statistics! I was really excited at first, but now I'm kind of terrified.

Can anyone suggest an area with a nice high school and safe neighborhood that's not outrageously priced? Any help is very much appreciated.

I think you are mistaken about La Verne. You might want to recheck the crime stats. Nice city. Most of La Verne is indistinguishable from Claremont.

Claremont is outstanding, but they do have some issues with the area south of the I-10 freeway that butts up against Pomona. Money magazine named Claremont as one of the best places to live in the US:

Best Places to Live: Top 100 - Claremont, Calif. (5) - Money Magazine

Crime in the Phillips Ranch area of Pomona is very minor. Most people who drive through that area don't realize they are in Pomona.

You might be interested in Walnut as well.

Claremont only has one public middle school its El Roble! Excellent school, great teachers! The high school is Claremont High. I can not say enough about the care and concern my children receive from the staff. As for crime...you were given wrong information....It just doesnt happen in CLaremont.

Claremont and La Verne are very safe with good schools.

Pomona and Montclair... not so much because they are further south.

As a basic rule with these Northeastern SGV cities (Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Claremont), the more north you go, the better.

FYI, Montclair and Upland are in the San Bernardino County, unlike La Verne and Claremont (Los Angeles County), if that means anything to you.
