Per my previous thread we are moving to California. We are flying out next Thursday to see the area and find a place to live. We have decided on Claremont. We were looking at Glendora but we couldn't find any houses to lease in that area. When we were looking at Glendora everyone said north of 210. Can anyone tell me if there is an area in Claremont that we should avoid? Anything we need to know before we come next week? I love everything I have read about the schools and the town. Thanks in advance for your help.

Claremont is a very nice town, has a bit of an east coast feel IMHO. Moderator cut: threads merged

No areas to avoid in Claremont, around here out of Ontario, Montclair, Pomona, Upland, it is the place to live, it is more upscale, and I realy have not been to a bad or run down area, alot of college kids...small shops, and pretty good places to eat...out of all the areas around here the schools are considered some of the best.

Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills are all nice areas. Might look into LaVerne, Glendora and San Dimas too if you like Claremont as their all close. I think I'd lean more towards LaVerne instead of Claremont...Just look around before making a decision and ask locals...I lived in Chino for years and know the area...

Thanks...My husband will be working in San Dimas. @ Hazel Eyes why do you favor LaVerne over Claremont? I haven't researched LaVerne yet. We will have 4 days in the area to look. I really researched Glendora but we can't find a house to lease there that we really like. Thank you again for the help. 4 days with 2 of them flying in and out is not a lot of time!

Ok..husband just called and he wanted me to ask about Covina and Rancho Cucamonga?? Basically we have:
Claremont (which I thought we had decided on)
Laverne
Glendora
Covina
Rancho Cucamonga
On our list of places to visit and decide if that is where we want to live. San Dimas is a little big for us.
Opinions?? Thank you

if you can afford it, i would stay closer than rancho cucamonga. there's no need to live 10+ miles from work when there are plenty of nice cities considerably closer. with only a few days to search for a house, you'll probably want to keep your radius smaller than 10 miles.

San Dimas is a little big for us.
Population of San Dimas is about 33K
La Verne is about 31K (I grew up there when it had about 6K, my Mom still lives there!)
Claremont, 35K
Glendora, 50K
Covina, 48K
Rancho Cucamonga, 165K

All of the cities and towns in the area basically run together - you can cross a street and cross a city limit at the same time.

Of the places you listed, I would seriously look at San Dimas, La Verne, and Claremont if you're looking for smallish towns with actual downtowns. Used to buy alfafa at San Dimas Feedstore in the 60's - and the place is still there Warehouse Pizza in La Verne has been there since the 70's. The old brick B of A building is now the La Verne University bookstore.

Bonita High School in La Verne has a 10 rating from GreatSchools.org. Claremont High is an 8. San Dimas is an 8 also.
