It looks as if columnist Steve Lopez has pissed off Mayor Garcetti.

"A week ago I flogged local leaders, specifically L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, after the latest count showed a 16% increase in the homeless population despite a $600-million attempt to deal with the catastrophe. The mayor was not happy with my work and thought I should learn more about his work."

I watched Eric Garcetti rise to the challenge of homelessness and fall short. But it’s not all his fault:

The Mayor has his yoga pants in a bunch . It would be one thing if he was mayor for a year or two but It’s been since 2013 and he was in the city council prior.

A pretty good example of why the city won't be able to spend their way out of this problem. 3 million dollars for 45 people is 67000 per person, which isn't that unreasonable in California even for group housing. If you scale that up to the full 36,300 homeless people in the most recent LA count, it would cost 2.42 billion dollars to build housing for them all. Now maybe they could find ways of doing it more cheaply, but this really shows the magnitude of the problem.

I have a solution that would work but it requires altering the standards for home construction.
the biggest problem is having a secure place to sleep and keep a few things ,
A pay per day camp with supervision that has a communal kitchen, out houses and showers and such so that it is not as a home but as a camp . dumpster and regular service . no power provided .
Those that cannot afford to pay can tent in stead of the sleeping structure.
Regular K9 units would have liberty to wander through at random and see that drug use is at a minimum .

NYC does it for less per person. Maybe we can learn something from them.

"New York City, which keeps nearly all of its 61,000 homeless people indoors, spends $1.8 billion a year on its shelter system."

https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/...905-story.html

But they do it and find ways to fund it.

If you work downtown you might want to read this summary of a woman who called into the John and Ken show on KFI AM 640. The intersection was Alameda and Washington so stay alert!

Yep, this is what happens since we've got all these people living here without accountability. They're not stakeholders in society, so they have nothing to lose by acting like savage animals and committing felonies. But, if you're generally a law abiding citizen who has a job and a home, tread lightly because the cops or courts won't be cutting you any slack.
