Does anyone here work in the television industry in LA? Can anyone tell me a bit about what the job market is like?

I currently work in television in NYC as a Video Editor. I've been doing it for close to five years. I'm not someone looking to move to LA with "big dreams of making it in the entertainment business". I do it to earn a living and I am already experienced in the industry. I'm just dying to get out of NYC for non-career related NYC issues (cost of living, overcrowding, subway commuting, etc).

Well I can tell you that I didn't try to get in to the industry, but a headhunter called me at random with an opportunity and I jumped at it. It's been one of the best things that ever happened to me. So I would assume there are plenty of opportunities. However, I am not an editor so maybe there is something I don't know specifically regarding the job market for editors.

My boyfriend and I have worked in the film industry in NYC as well for about the same amount of time as you have (and we're planning a move to LA too). I know some TV editors in LA and from what I hear from them, it's slowed down a bit but there's still plenty of editing work in LA. A lot of stuff has gone to NY though.

I totally understand your need to move. I am burnt out on living and working in NYC.

Point taken, that's why I'm only exploring options right now. Would you consider it worse than NYC?

It is not as bad as NY, and you should come out and throw your hat in the ring. There is always room for one more editor!

You never know what will happen, and in fact something great may come your way.

Go for it!
