Join a sports team or get a job. Pretty much all my friends come from my baseball team or my workplace(or former workplaces).

You could try volunteering. Bring your music to share joy with someone in need. A Hospitial or a senior home. You may meet some interesting people - young and old. You could also join a sports team such as bhcompy suggested.

I'm not 21, so I'm still kinda in that awkward age range where there are limited things to do haha.
This is what I suggest you

I'd check out Bikerowave or Bike Attack if you have a bike. If you don't, get one. They'll help you tune it up. It's a place where you can do something alone but with help and company. They have events too. Bikerowave has movie nights. Ask about group rides, or hiking, or events.

Santa Monica has a nonprofit tennis club. Talk to some of the people on 3rd Street about busking, just for the opportunity to perform. Go to SMC's film department and offer soundtracks for film students. I think you'll get lots of interest, and maybe some fun collaborations. Take a Spanish class.

Check if the Abbot Kinney Festival needs volunteers.

Whatever you're studying, find a nonprofit community based organization in your field and inquire about volunteer opportunities. It could be a great learning and career experience. Gee...19. The world is out there.

I'm having trouble meeting people, and finding myself alone quite a bit of the time. I'm not really lonely, I'm just looking for the right places to meet some cool people to hang out with.
I'm a 19 year old straight musician (session guitar player). I'm a big fan of all types of music, movies, tennis, hiking, and biking.
Any tips on some good places to meet people? or at least some cool things to do alone?

Thanks!
Hi there,

I can relate a lot to your post. I moved to North Hollywood about two weeks ago and trying to meet other like-minded people. I'm a recent college graduate and like to sing for a hobby. I know your post was created a year ago but if you have any idea on where I could look that helped you find some cool friends that would be great. I go to LA Fitness but it's difficult to make friends when people have the ear phone in and just focused on working out. Oh, and do you know where I could look for people who would like to start a band. Would you rec cragslist? Thank you!

Extra curricular activities are the ticket.

Also, max out on free entertainment, infotainment, activities.

The free weeklies are filled with ideas and things to do.

I found the gym is the worst place to meet people now with the invention of the MP3/Ipod. Used to be one of the best.

Try to meet people in your building or go out to bars in Noho. That's still one of the best ways to meet people.

As for a band, try meetup.com. Also use a dating website since that's the new in thing to do here.
