Hi, i'm looking to meet people here in LA. I'm an aupair, have been here 9 weeks and here for 1 year. Im from the Wales (very different from LA!) Living between west hollywood and beverly hills. Love it here so far but really need to meet more people and get social life going! Being away from home is tough, I need to make LA 'home' ..at least for the year so having friends etc is important.
Any tips and advice on how to meet people? I'm 20 so bars and clubs isn't an option. I've joined a few groups etc.. any help will do - you've gotta start somewhere!!
Thanks,
Amy

Santa Monica appears to be a popular place for people from the UK. Maybe you could start by joining an online group such as British Expats at

L.A. IS absolutely horrible for making friends in my opinion. People to stuck up superficial and just down right flakes. My take on it is that there are too many extremes. People are either pretending to be actors singers, movie stars etc, pretending to gangstars, and then theres the racial segregation element to it. I see tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of mexicans and central americans who either A. dont speak english
B dont want to speak it to you if they do
C. live in communities where they are majority and funny thing is I speak spanish and wouldnt
mind being friends with them but when you talk to people here they act like they re scared or
something.

LA HAS NEGATIVE ENERGY AND NEEDS MORE DIVERSITY SO GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FRIEND SEARCH IVE TRIED IT IN L.A. AND HAD NO LUCK. FUNNY THING IS I LIVED IN MIAMI AND ABSOLUTELY HATED IT BUT MADE FRIENDS ALOT EASIER. GUESS YOU CANT HAVE EVERYTHING LOL.

I'm from South London. I've been in LA for 2 years and San Diego for 3 years. I've had no problems making friends in SoCal. People are pretty quick to talk to me, especially when they hear my accent. They become curious and I always seem to have something in common with the majority of people in LA, music, arts, documentaries. I go to an 80's club every Monday in Hollywood and last week I met this really cool guy who was at the last Deftones show and GlassJAw show, we were both at those same shows and screamed when we found out (like little school girls). Now we're metal head buddies. A lot of fun things like that happen when i'm out and about. Lots of fun house parties, roof top parties and pool parties. There's a lot out there. LA is so huge. I got my East LA friends, my WeHo gay friends, my Middle Eastern friends, my black friends in South LA and more. I'm very happy here though last night my friend tried to pressure me into moving to Miami.

I think I would have a hard time making friends if all I did was hang out in Hollywood and go to top 40 clubs. I'm not saying that's what you do, I just see a lot of people doing that. It's not a cool scene at all.
