sorry, had to bump this thread so i can rant.

i live in santa monica and my bedroom faces the back alley.

im right next to the 3 gigantic trash containers.

every ****ing morning the garbage truck comes in around 7:15am and it makes the loudest ****ing noise imaginable.

just like the op said, its like the Transformers are going ape $hit.

this is straight up ridiculous. i usually wake up a few mins before the truck arrives so it doesnt really wake me up but what about people who dont wake up this early?

how $hitty would it be to have to wake up to that every day?

cant wait to move to a nice condo 20+ floors above ground level.

There so loud because "green" Democrats have them run on natural gas and there so gutless the drivers drive them floored all the time.

I tried doing a search online and apparently nobody seems to find these automatic trucks with the claw to be a nuisance. Am I crazy? Am I the only one that cant handle this?
Because they can.

You're welcome

Its my guess that the noise difference comes with the differences in trash collection here, versus where you've lived in the past. The east coast cities you mentioned usually have smaller "personal" style trash bins. Its been awhile since i've had to take out trash in Manhattan, but I don't think they use the trucks that "lift" the trash can. This is probably what makes ours so loud.
Don't they leave piles of trash bags on the sidewalk in NYC? At least we don't do that here. I wonder if that attracts rodents.

If thats your only annoyance where you live consider yourself lucky..I would rather hear a loud garbage truck once a week than my annoying unemployed neighbor that drives back and forth all day long revving his engine in his loud piece of sh*t car

Default I feel you

I mean, maybe the both of us are neuro-divergent in some manner, but I feel your struggle for sure. I have the same story of rarely noticing extended periods of noise in other major cities, but here in LA... totally different. I JUST called my garbage company to complain. The trucks here have to wait for smaller "scout trucks" to pull dumpsters out of certain building garages. Since the main truck has to wait for scout trucks, these drivers will chill outside your place for fifteen minutes at a time, with the compactor hydraulics on full throttle. I finally called today because I started working from home again. When I was on unemployment, the noise didn't matter for me, but damn, for anyone working from home, these trucks aren't just more noticeable than other major cities, they are intensely louder and will just idle outside your place for extended periods. Like why do the compactor hydraulics need to be on for fifteen minutes straight? How the hell is that good for the hydraulic pump to stay engaged for that long?

I'm over here snickering at all the frustration and "???'s" exhibited here because we feel the exact same way. We complain about it all the time. We live in a complex, so the trash and recycling trucks come 3 times a week. They park basically under our window while they roll out several dumpsters. We have a very echo-y street, so the air brakes, clanging, beeping, etc., is torture. It lasts for approximately 20 minutes. We also hear them echoing in a nearby alley.

I never liked hearing them, but it's definitely more miserable where we live now. I don't know if it's only LA trucks, but I just wanted to complain my 2-cents' worth.

(Don't get me started [again] on the gardening around here, and our complete <blank> of a neighbor with his ear-splitting motorcycle who won't just light somewhere.)
