During the storm a tree fell on my gargage and took the power line with it .There still is power to the house .LIPA said we need to hire an electrician to put the wire back since we have power is this possible? Part of the tree is still on top of line,we understand this our responsibility but putting the line back also?

LIPA is responsible from the pole to your service connection above your meter. If this is a line from your house to the garage, it is your responsibility.

So it goes from your house to the garage - the garage is getting power from your house, not the pole directly, correct? Looks like that is on you.

LIPA is not responsible for local lines at your home. They are only responsible for the line from the pole to the service on your property.

Yes and the line that is down has nothing to do with the gargage ..it is to the house, they are saying since electric is working it isnt their problem .This was in the air it just fell on gargage when the tree fell. The line to the gargage is ok.

Where is the the meter? On the garage? Overhead wire from the pole to the garage, then another overhead wire from the garage to the house?

Lipa is responsible TO THE METER, INCLUDING the meter

if the wire is down near the ground, they need to put it back, whether the elctric is on or not.

YOU are responsible for cleaning the debris, and the tree

Actually LIPA is only responsible for the service cable (wire) to the "point of attachment" on the house and the meter itself. The weatherhead, the wire, conduit and meter pan (everything mounted to the exterior wall) on the house is the homeowners responsibility.
