Your basing your assessment strictly upon what you've seen. (We wouldn't judge all Italian people from what we've seen in Howard Beach, would we?)

The people I know who ride are pharmacists, dentists, lawyers, detectives, upper management in large corporations, small business owners, commercial real estate developers -- hardly the 'bloated and aged' versions of the youthful motorheads. Granted, there are meatheads out there, but then again, there are meatheads in every facet of life.

You're taking great pains to teach you child how to behave properly in public -- so many people don't. We make a point of keeping our exhaust stock -- many bikers don't. All either one of us can do is lead by example.

I'd sooner hear a passing Harley than the incessant leaf blower noise that permeates the air all day during the week as soon as Spring comes. I understand your dismay with the vehicles exceeding reasonable decibels. I wouldn't want my teeth rattling while eating a zpita.

BTW -- haven't you and I had this discussion a year of so ago
?
Ha ha!! I was just thinking "man, I'm getting deja vu" while reading your post. We had this exact one a year ago.

I have no problem with bikers. I'm sure they think I look ridiculous with my short hair and lack of leather.

I do have a real problem with noise pollution. It's scientifically proven to cause stress, which shortens your life span. It's not simply about being "old", (I've been to more than my fair share of concerts) it's a real health concern that I think should be addressed more often. It's about subjecting others to your noise.

It's one of the reasons people in cities don't live as long as those in the country.

Seriously though, weekend warriors and clubs of like minded people who like the same toys and do civic minded things, it's all good.

It's the graying beard and ponytailed guy with the whole biker uniform who can't let go of 1972 that's a bit sad. Taking a motorcycle hobby and making it a way of life is as goofy as the Star Trek guy wearing Spock ears in public or the comic book guy with the Spidey tattoo.

"When is Blue Oyster Cult coming around again, MAN??"

Hey, it wakes up everybody on the block, but, loud sonic boom devices save lives!!

Because you guys want your past time to be less dangerous, you should be able to create a nuisance for the 95% of the rest of the public who don't ride? Noise pollution is a real public health issue, not just whining. See how your health ends up if you get awaken every 5 minutes by a loud noise.

Also, I don't buy that it's all about safety. Part of the motivation is that little boys like attention. Even if the girls who turn their head are disgusted by the sight of pig pen overwhelming the seat of his Harley..he still got their attention, right?

I respect a citizen's right to ride a bike. BUT I must say, the Harleys are unbearable in the small towns, especially where I live, right next to Main Street in Northport. They are SO violently, obnoxiously loud, it's like the bike is in our living room, no joke. I can't tell you how many times those bikes have woken up our napping child and even late at night, one of us. It's not a fun way to wake up, feels like I'm in 'Nam or something. Or just relaxing in the park, all of sudden it's ripped away.

No offense, I'm all for freedom to ride, but not at the expense of innocent bystanders' right to peace and quiet. Those things belong on the byways and highways only.

What, you think your kids right to take a nap supersedes some Blue Oyster Cult fans right to ride an overblown tricycle that punishes everyone within 1/4 mile of it? But, they make the pipes loud to SAVE THEIR LIVES, don't you get it?

You should go to your village govt and push for a noise ordnance..start handing out tickets to these children.

It's deja vu all over again

OK, next spring when a thread of this nature rears it's noisy head, we can refer back to this and last year LOL

Now if we could only use those scientific studies to keep low flying helicopters from buzzing LI's tree tops, we would be making progress!

I am not addressing the earlier portion of your post because I will merely be rewriting much of what was previously written.

What I would like to ask is: what do you consider a 'byway'?

PJV has noise in their code: eCode360

It appears that Northport has the same code, but I am having difficulty reaching it throught the Northport Village site. It is linkedto ecode360.com

While I completely understand that large gatherings of muffler-less Harleys are annoying, the reailty of it is that most Harley riders don't hang out on my street corner and rev their engines for hours.

I suspect they aren't revving their engines for hours in large gatherings neither
