Walk into store, pass NICS background test, walk out with firearm. Done. That's the way it's done in virtually every state except the usual suspects - NY, CA, DC, NJ, HI, etc. - and even in those places, the permitting process for pistols is far less onerous than downstate NY (except maybe CA). This isn't even a state issue. It's quite easy to get a full carry permit in almost any county in NY north of Westchester, which is valid in the entire state other than NYC, but almost impossible to get the same full carry permit down here.

Do the liberal elites believe that people in rural upstate counties are more trustworthy? Or is it that all of this is completely arbitrary and has absolutely no bearing on crime.

They have a loophole. They cash your check right away (which provides proof of when they receive your application). However, they don't start the six-month "clock" until the interview. I know a few cases where people have waited a year for the interview, then received their license almost six months to the day after that interview.

So to normal people, it's 18 months. In the time-distortion field of Suffolk County, they are within the six-month limit. BTW - don't pester them or bring up the six-month topic, as it is believed that will move your application to the bottom of the stack.

What's crazy is that to get a pistol license in Nassau or Suffolk, you are already vetted to an extreme degree. There is an extensive background check at state and federal levels. They look at your driving extract. They call your friends and neighbors. They contact your spouse. They look at the records of people living in your household and other relatives. Then, a "trained professional" reviews that information and does a personal interview (with some trick questions) to determine your trustworthiness.

It would seem that it is not about the applicant. It must be that they consider themselves so completely incompetent compared to other counties that they cannot trust themselves to issue a license. Maybe that's why they have to add unnecessary complications to the purchase process.

I wasn't aware that ALL of LI was run by liberal elites. Liberals don't own guns? I didnt know that. Nothing is cheap or easy to get here. I do agree however. Once you pass the background check and process you should be able to walk in and buy what you would like.

Just go to Hempstead at night. Very cheap, no hassle of permits too.

Of course they do. Publically, they denounce guns. Privately, they use their connections to bypass normal processes and safety education. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Just look at Alec Baldwin to see how well that formula turns out. A guy with anger issues that wouldn't (or shouldn't) pass the NYS license process gets to run a production with guns, allows his staff to play with live ammo, and then himself fires a loaded gun at someone. All to claim that the gun "shot itself." Normal people with his history likely wouldn't pass a NICS check.

I still don't believe he will ever be held accountable, even civilly. Rules for thee, not for me. Thee, meaning us peasants. Me, meaning Alec and the elite.

Some do and some don't bother because it's so easy for people to get guns in this country. Dylan Roof was a law abiding citizen who got a license, god for bid he would have to wait longer than 72 hours. I'm glad we have strict gun laws, most of the illegal guns in NY come from places like Virginia and Georgia that have weak laws.

We need the same type laws for voting.

Most firearms used in crime are from straw purchases like the gang banger's girlfriend.
