Are there any parts of LI where you can score a big home for a cheap sticker price like you can in some southern states? (Brookhaven: vacation home, living)

Well if the cities of Long Island weren't such dumps, maybe everybody wouldnt have to run to the city to earn their coin
I'm scratching my head as to why nobody's invested for so many years
Look at White Plains, New Rochelle, even Yonkers is trying
Peekskill is even making a comeback
No city on Long Island comes close to White Plains or New Rochelle
G-Dale is right, pretty soon NYC's just gonna come buy it when it's cheap because they're getting priced out.
Maybe Metro North is better than the LIRR? More delays and cancellations due to a derailment. When their loose definition of “on time” is still only met 90% of the time it’s not a well run railroad. And if you need to travel 1.5 to 2 hours on said railroad into NYC each way would you feel confident?

Bingo...also there are more bus opportunities...most folks I knew who lived upstate were taking the bus in very day and never (NEVER) had any issues...they lived as much as 50 miles up...whereas I was 30 miles east and had seemingly constant issues commuting via railroad...
It's happening already. Gdale I'd right. My NYC cop and fire buddies are all leaving the city and buying McMansiions in Brookhaven . Areas like Coram and Center Moriches. The price was low. Lots of property . New construction. Hamptons close. Take train for free to work.......

It's cheap because it's a 90 min train ride with a flawless run. Plus the time to get to train. Free or not you are spending 4 hours a day commuting.
That house sold for 175k in April was renovated and now back on the market. Homes are at or near all time high's and homes in the danch are still dirt cheap, I wonder why.
Allow me to drop some Facts about "The Danch"

Kinda smug way to come off, when later on in the same paragraph you say nobody could have predicted Brooklyn real estate making such a great turn around
So whats your point?
Yes back in the 1990's, no one could have predicted it. But now, it's not hard to see.
Remember the saying "a tree grows in Brooklyn"? This was back when Brooklyn was broken down. Now, it's a new and different Brooklyn.
