To estimate your credit, multiply your 2013 school tax bill by 1.5% (.015).

so way less than 350 for me

I'm seeing people say how easy it is to do, so I'm trying to assist an elderly couple with the process.
There are a few homes for sale in their immediate area but not many actual closed sales.

What's the best approach to grieve if you don't have actual sales to use as a comp.

Ask a Realtor if they're willing to help or hire a grievance company.

In Nassau you can only grieve Jan 2 to March 2 2015 and the website gives you the comps to use. Piece of cake.

on-line form takes ten minutes tops to do yourself.

Since that's a Saturday, they'll accept grievances till Monday, March 3rd.

You can try and do this yourself, or hire one of a number of grievance companies. They usually charge nothing if they're not successful, but get 50% of the first year's savings if they are; most also charge a nominal appraisal fee if successful as well as a small filing fee if they handle the appeals process.

Here's a link to Nassau County's ARC site (Assessment Review Commission):

However, if you live in a condo three stories or less in Nassau County most of the tax services wont help you, the on-line tool wont automatically give you the comps and unlike a building above three stories which follow Tax Certoria where board does it for the building you are usually on your own to grieve.

Which is why condos in Nassau often pay more taxes than they should
