are you guys talking about School ('14-15) and County/Town '15'?
or
School ('13-14) and County/Town '14'

Because I only successfully grieved for '14-'15 and haven't gotten anything back - should I expect it now or next year?

If you succcesfully grieved the 14/15 tax bill you will see the savings in the School Tax bill that comes out 10-1-2014.

Or you can go to the main page land record viewer site and enter in your new assessed value and it will tell you what your Oct 2014 tax bill will look like. Click on this link, then picture of little red house and enter your new assessed value to see what your new school tax bill will be.

Nassau County, Long Island New York

Btw check your neighbors 10-1-2014 tax bills too when they come out. Between late processing of 14/15 Scars and the Sandy Property Tax grievances as well as regular 14/15 tax greivances you may find if though you already won you may be overassessed vs. neighbors.

Did you file a 15/16 Grievance? If so those dont get processed or even mostl looked at till after 10-1-2014 school tax roll in finalized.

Are they sending checks for everyone including those who handle taxes through their mortgage company - wasn't sure if I should look out for a decrease there instead. I suppose they wouldn't have everyone's mortgage info on file.

I'm familiar with the website, but I'm wondering about the actual refund/check. You guys are receiving it now for the '13/'14 grievances then?

There is no refund check on a plain tax greivance. You taxes just get lowered. If you have a mortgage the bank will need to escrow less and your mortgage payment will eventually fall.

Folks who own their own homes and pay tax bill directly. When they get the 10-1-2014 tax bill it will be for less if they won the 14/15 tax grievance.

Checks may come later this year for primary home owners making under 500K as Cuomo has some rebate check planed if you school budget stays under a certain amount.

Also for folks who filed Sandy property tax grievances they will get a rebate later this year on the overpayment of the 12/13 and 13/14 taxes.

On my primary I won my tax grievance, am gettting a Sandy tax refund and are eligible for the Cuomo check. Most of my neighbors same thing. Effectively I will get back in excess of what I paid in Property tax in 2014 and I have to declare the excess as taxable income.

13/14 is for the 10/1/2013 school tax and 1/1/2014 General Tax. (Jan/Feb 2012 Grievance)

14/15 is for the 10/1/14 school tax and 1/1/2015 General Tax. (Jan/Feb 2013 Grievance)

15/16 is for the 10/1/15 school tax and 1/1/2016 General Tax. (Jan/Feb 2014 Grievance)

16/17 is for the 10/1/16 school tax and 1/1/2017 General Tax. (Jan/Feb 2015 Grievance)

Right now everyone has been notified to the results of their Jan/Feb 2013 Grievance and if they won they will get the lower school tax bill 10-1-2014.

If you won that one that will be your same assessed value for 10-1-2015 hopefully.

The grievance refund is not the same as the rebate.

I received a check in the mail after winning another grievance on appeal.

.
The first round of checks (for $350 rebate) went out this week to eligible homeowners.

Eligibility:
  • must be primary residence
  • claim at least one child under age 17 on 2012 tax return
  • adjusted gross income was between $40,000 - $300,000
Next month, NYS will send out property tax rebate checks to homeowners in communities with school districts that stayed blow the state's tax cap.

The above information is from Snoozeday - today, Sat. 9/27/14

Don't understand why a house worth over 2 million pays half the taxes of what Syosset, Plainview area pays on a house value of less than a half a mil.

Your statement is very vague (and off-topic for this thread) and you don't give a location for the "over 2 million" property.

So I'll give you a factual example: as Long Island homeowners know only too well, the bulk of our RE taxes go to the School District. And if you don't have a lot of schools to support, as in the Hamptons for the example, your RE taxes are going to be a lot lower--even though your house may be huge and have a market value of over $2 million.
