I wanted to get everyones thoughts of what life on Long Island will be like in 5 years or so.Do you think they will correct the tax problem?Or do you think it will get worse??Do you think they will continue to build and take whatever open space we have left??I really hope to hear your opinions.

Five years from now, Long Island will be much like it is today. The tax problem will never be corrected, due to the politition's lack of political will and people's apathy toward's local elections. Continued NIMBYism will prevent any major building projects from going forward. More land will be "preserved" removing it from the tax rolls and further driving up property taxes.
The immigrants, especially the Indians, will make things interesting.
These people are very hard working, and business oriented. There are entire blocks of stores catering to Indians on 107 south of Old Country Road. As Brontosaurus suburbanicus continues to age, and shuffle off to the Great Subdivision in the Sky, and their increasingly marginalized, largely useless offspring get tractored off, this place might, in 5 - 10 years, become fit for humans again.

I think that, while not drastic, there will be more mixed use, commercial, and apt/townhouse style residential getting built. The bottom line, taxes will keep going up and young people will move if this does not happen.

The population is aging. Soon there will be a majority of people who are over 65. There are not really that many over 55 places for them to live. That is one thing that will be different.
But, that being said , that might be offset by the younger immigrant population.
