The LIRR has suspended service on all branches except Pt Washington due to a fire in a signal house east of Jamaica. The LIRR is being very closed mouthed about the problem which leads me to believe it is worse than what they are letting out. This only means commuting for the next week will be a nightmare.
I'm sure the MTA unions will use this as another opportunity to screw the railroad for their own selfish benefit.
I bet they can use those 25 signal maintainers they laid off.
Or maybe (I'm just speculating here) if the 25 signal maintainers did their job right the first time maybe the fire wouldn't have happened? Or maybe it's sabotage BY one of the 25? Who knows, all I know is I'll be having at least one beer on the way home, if I make it.
I haven't even seen anything about running buses out of Jamaica assuming you can get their via subway. The lack of news on this is a little concerning.
The LIRR has indeed been very close lipped about this incident. I believe it probably is far worse then what they want out to the public now. Imagine if this was in the middle of winter when the LIRR is much busier instead of a slow Monday in August.
Oh and judging by the picture on the "paper that shall go unnamed" there are 30 thats right 3-0 people standing around starring into a hole. I think they have it covered.

could be completely unrelated...but didn't one of the subway lines get knocked out of commission for MONTHS a few years back because of a fire with the signals or switches or something like that?
Months?..I don't remember any subway line knocked out for that long.
