Moved here from the East Coast also and first few years thought the 'dry' heat was great, compared to the humidity back East. After 20+ years and I'm not so fond of it. Still beats the humidity, but I'd rather be on the Coast of San Diego, but it's so darn expensive! Comfortable temps year 'round.

Oh, absolutely! Weather-wise, I don't think that San Diego can be beat.

You step outside and immediately become soaked in sweat.

Give me Las Vegas anytime!
So true.. lol

I remember growing up in NYC when it was 90 out it was pure hell, all that humidity and heat together.

I will take Vegas hot any day of the week.

Not sure why you say that. San Diego is very affordable -- lots of homes for sale in the $1.8 million to $2.5 million range. Of course, if you want to spend more, go to La Jolla -- home of the $5 Million fixer-upper.

There is no doubt that San Diego weather is near perfect. That aside, as a NYC resident for 50 years, having spent last summer in Las Vegas (6 weeks), I will also take the dry heat any day. We had mid-80's here in NY last week, with 70% humidity and it was brutal. I remember 105 in Vegas last year and we didn't even notice the 20% humidity.
Another interesting thing we noted was the absence of that mildewy smell so common in the Northeast. Somehow, everything smelled a little cleaner out west. OK, maybe not around some of the hotel trash areas we accidently ended up driving past when we got lost.
I have sworn off summers in the East. This year it's July and August in Las Vegas!!!!!!

I am not sure why you consider $1.8 million to $2.5 million affordable in today's economy.

It's not only the hotel trash areas that have a stench! I remember walking with some friends on the strip and one asking 'what's that smell?'. It smelled like a dead carcass! I said, 'you lay out in the 100+ degrees all day and see what you smell like.' I think it was the stench from water, sprinklers or whatever. It was nasty.

I think, and hope, she was being facetious??? I don't consider $1.8 affordable in any economy. Maybe to a very minute few?
