I'm sorry but this doesn't make sense to me - you'd rather trap all the dirt and sand in carpets instead of being able to sweep/vaccuum it easily from a hard surface floor? Carpets will be way harder to clean, any day of the week. I recommend a door mat if you don't want to track it all around the house.

Well, my inexperience talking I am sure. But my first thought was that I don't feel it in the carpet in my bare feet, and I can vacuum...hardwood I felt like I had to wear slippers around the house at all times as I find grit under my feet to be rather gross.

Your point about the destruction of the carpet is well taken, however, so I will just buy slippers
