Hello, My wife and I are relocating to Las Vegas upon the next year. We have been looking at various housing listings, and I was hoping to get some opinions regarding various areas in LV. We have seen some Nice homes with good size plots in the Northwest portion on the city (89131, 89129). I was curious if I could obtain some insight regarding this portion of the city. A majority of my work will be mainly in the Southwest portion (some in the Northwest), I don't mind commuting, but lots of traffic is always a hassle.
I appreciate any info, and thank you in advance.

You can make it from the NW to the SW in 30 or 35 minutes in the non-rush hour. In the height of the rush it will take 45 minutes to an hour. If you are taking service calls and such it is not bad. If working 8 to 5 or so it is a pain.

Any of the NW zips 89166 89149 89131 89129 89143 are generally . Generally larger homes and some large lots at moderate pricing. Note that some newer tracts are very hard hit by foreclosures. This makes for great prices and unstable neighborhoods.

Traffic in Vegas is a breeze compared to most other cities.

The only areas that are bad are the areas around the strip and part of the 215 (but not for long, since they're adding on more lanes).

I live in 89129 and love it. But if I had been smart 20 years ago I would have bought in Summerlin. Best part of Las Vegas.

We sold a nice house in 89131 and got out while the getting was good. We could see the gradual movement of people we didn't want to associate with towards that area. It really isn't as bad as we had expected, but it's coming. Make of that whatever you want, but it was my investment and I didn't want to lose it.

Thank you all for your replies, I guess I will start focusing on the southwest portion (as it will be close to work). It seems that Summerlin is where it is at, I just wish the plots of land were larger. Again, I appreciate all the information!

89143 is very nice adn safe, (Northwest) we just bought here in june and got an AWESOME deal. (168,000) 3 bed 2 bath- all re-done and we love it. ppl say we got a steal. It the neighbors that i love they came out to great me when we were moving in.

there are a few forclosers around here, stay away from the ESTATE SALES here. You get a better deal whealing and dealing.

What do you mean "estate sales"? Are you referring to shorts? If you are referring to bank owned, you are wrong!

How big was your home / lot size?
