My husband's step brother works at a casino in Vegas (on the strip) and it has been recently said that yes, you make about $50 a day the first year and this must be done outside of the strip (considered on the job training). After your first year of "ojt" then you can possibly transfer to the strip at which time you can make about $75-80k a year - IF YOU'RE A GOOD DEALER!

First of all, I heard that you will start out at a local casino in downtown and I heard that the average income including tips and everything is about 40-50k. But I was wondering, is that the average income if you deal in the pit, or a poker dealer?

Also, about how long does it usually take on average to move on up to the strip after dealing at the local downtown casinos?

I also have a quick question of the crime rate. I am planning to move in to an apartment, Renaissance Villas, located in West Tropicana Avenue. I think it's located in the city of Spring Valley compared to other parts of Las Vegas. I heard that some places like near Las Vegas Blvd. and the northern part of Vegas was pretty bad, so I was wondering how that location that I am so far planning to move to was when it comes to crime rate.
One of my friends used to manage a hotel in Vegas in the early 90's, his sister is currently a VIP member manager at one of the main strip hotel (can't name it). According to him, to get a job as a dealer in one of the main strip hotels you either have to be incredibly good looking with a good head on your shoulders, know someone inside or pay someone a lot of money. I don't know about downtown Vegas, I'm sure it's not as hard. The Wynn also cut their dealers wages, they still average around $80,000 year compared to $120,000 at the Palms. He didn't say anything about the other resorts. Once again this information came from a friend, he drives a SL 63 AMG and lives in this huge mansion here in FL, so I'm taking him on his word, this may or may not be reality, I thought I should just share. Good luck!!

Before you move to Vegas make sure you have a job before you come.
Casinos have layed of emplyees and or frozen jobs. Right now if you haven't heard the casinos stock is being traded low and they aren't able to borrow money to finish projects.

To find out the crime area's you should google the crime mapping sites and that will give you an idea where to live.

Hope this is helpful

I am a dealer in the 21 pit. I have 10 years experience and I will be lucky to make $30k this year. So will a lot of other dealers. That propaganda started by Steve Wynn claiming that his dealers made $100k has really hurt all of us dealers in the wallet, and I suppose that may have been his motivatation for stating that. That somehow went hand in hand with his play to confiscate dealer tips to pay his floor people. That theft continues until our state can decide who a tip given to belongs to. Now I read on here that someone thinks the Palms dealers make $125k per year. That is just false. Yes, I have friends that opened the Wynn and still work there, also at the Palms. My knowledge is first hand.

There are no dealer jobs in Las Vegas. Don't even come here looking for a job. Entire extra boards have been laid off.

Come here and buy a house. We need people like that.

#1. Good luck in finding a dealing job in Vegas and yes I'm being sarcastic. The off strip properties are even harder hit that downtown which has been harder hit than the strip. I'm not making this up, revenues are down worse at the off strip places.

#2. I agree with the above poster that any dealers in Vegas make 6 figures.

For the live of me, I cannot figure out why so many people think its a great idea to move to Vegas right now. Outside of like Detroit(which is a dying city) and Pittsburg, the economy has hit Vegas the hardest and is exacerbated by a glut of housing.

To my certain knowledge their are casino dealers who make more than 75K and cocktail waitresses who make 80K. Or did. That was two years ago.

There are "dancers" who get well past 100K...

I even have knowledge of a waitress in a breakfast place who declares $50K.

I have visited Vegas at least 10 times a year for the past 8 years or so. I had a girlfriend there for a while and was staying several days at a time multiple times a month. Additionally I have a friend who has been looking for a house there for a while now. Finally, I read the online edition of LVRJ every day.

I can't comment on the state of the schools or local politics, but I'm an expert in a lot of things about Las Vegas.
