those stats probably aren't as scary as you think. Think like this: How many "serious" applicants do they have? Of them, how many have the basic qualifications? How many show up for the interview? How many pass the drug test? How many take the job offer? etc. One person's dream job is another's plan B, so you never know.

Considering that they used to have 1500 or so positions available, and the staffing levels have not gone up, it is a scary statistic.

When I worked for them, we had almost 800 people in my orientation, now they average about 70 or so. Now is not a good time to find work in this town.
I just got back home from my trip to Vegas last night. I spent quite a bit of time walking around the Venetian and the Palazzo, so let me first say that I am very jealous of you and your wife for having the opportunity to work there!

Secondly, the HR center was pretty busy when I was there. I did my best during the interview and was advised that I should hear back from the appropriate department within a week, so let's hope that I do because I really want to work there! Yes, you can call me crazy if you want lol.

Anyway, thanks for the good luck. I appreciate it.

I have a first interview scheduled with Venetian/Palazzo human resources on Friday. What are some of the questions they ask?

All it is on the first interview is to confirm your identity.. No big deal.. shouldn't even be considered an interview.... What position are you going for?

I am going for the Training Specialist position. I worked in human resources for Six Flags for a number of years as an interview/recruiter and then as a park trainer performing different types of trainings. I also spent some time in the operations side at Six Flags as a guest relations and administrative supervisor. I have written and facilitated trainings for a few organizations nationwide. Last, I have experience as an entreprenuer. I started a publishing company in 2006 that employeed twelve at its height until the economy tanked. I feel that I have the experience needed for the position.

I dont believe anybody asked you to post your qualifications in this thread. Also if your so versed in HR pratice, you should already know how to respond in an interview. As Airics has already posted. Its a prescreen interview. Dept managment condcuts the candiates for hire interviews.

If you get past the prescreening process I'd be very careful how you sell those qualifications. It could easily be interpreted as "head cashier at six flags that sometimes operated a roller coaster" and "I started a company that lasted two years before I ran it it into the ground bankrupt". In fact, that is exactly how it sounds to me.

Interviewers are going to see right through your fluff when they start asking the "tell me about a time you...." questions. Concentrate on your strengths and have solid experiences in mind that have a beginning, middle and ending with a positive outcome. Qualify your story with data and metrics if possible.

You may also want to run a spell check on anything you type. You should be able to spell entrepreneur and employed correctly on anything you submit to them.
