Why would a VGK player move to Henderson and drive to City National Arena in Summerlin every day for work?

Since the Raiders HQ is moving to Henderson, I guess players, team and corporate staff will try to find real estate convenient to the practice facility, but who knows?

I think if you flip a coin, you will win.

Where do you work? If you work in Summerlin you won't be happy commuting from Henderson and vice versa!

Work from home.

We went through the same angst. When we came to visit for 3 weeks in August we stayed in Anthem. When we came back to look for a house the choices in Anthem were pathetic and overpriced. We ended up in Summerlin and couldn't be happier. After 3 1/2 years we have to turn down offers to do things because we don't have the time. Having nothing to do up here is not a problem unless you sit in your house all day.

...

When I see the place, Downtown Summerlin, City National Arena ...
You answered your own question. Their practice facility is in Summerlin.

You will see most of the Raiders living in Anthem or Southern Highlands as their practice facility is by Henderson Executive.

I will say my family, two aunts and two uncles, live in Henderson and I found where they live to be a lot of row houses and strip malls, it just seemed... too suburban to me. I don't know if their area was one of the 55+ communities or what, I think it is, perhaps. They also told me it was 15 minutes from the Strip but the drive was a good 35-40 minutes so... yeah I don't know what's up with that. Maybe traffic was just especially bad.

We are pretty much set on Summerlin, but I want to remain open minded because I think the only good way to look is to spend at least a few days in each location, and maybe also (since we will move years from now) see what's up with South Las Vegas, if that's an up-and-coming area by that point.

My main thing I'm trying to figure out is not which is better, Henderson or Summerlin, for your average family, because it does seem to be a wash there, personal preference.

What I'm more curious about is my own situation. Where is the best place for two people to live who won't ever have a "job" in Las Vegas (my company operates nationwide, I can run it from anywhere, and my other work is in the film industry), don't want kids, and are building a $1M+ home? I keep coming back to there must be some reason that every celebrity, business owner, and Golden Knights player I've ever heard of lives in Summerlin and not in Henderson. I feel like when I talk to people outside of Las Vegas, everyone has heard of Summerlin, even people like my dad who is idiotically negative on Las Vegas always speaks highly of Summerlin and knows it's one of the best places to live. Random people who you'd think don't know much about a suburb of some city they don't live in, they all seem to know of Summerlin and it reminds me a lot of the Pearl District in Portland. It's famous for what it represents in city planning, I guess, so people have heard of it far and wide.

I'm curious if for my situation, it would still be a tie between Henderson and Summerlin, or given those factors if it does as I suspect tip the favor to Summerlin? When I see the place, Downtown Summerlin, City National Arena, Red Rock Casino, the hiking trails not far away, somehow it just feels right. Henderson when I went didn't have that feeling to me, but I grant I didn't see that much of it so it's an unfair judgment to make. There are probably amazing areas of Henderson just as good as anything in Summerlin, I'm just so far leaning more toward Summerlin.
Actually if you wish to live in Tournament Hills a million only gets you in the door. In fact at this point it will likely have to be +..And a good lot at the Ridges will run 900,000 to a few million...for a vacant lot.

There is similar in Henderson. And if you dig around a bit you will find lots of stars and business types in Henderson. Henderson has tracts with Ridge pricing also.

So pick wherever you like. If you want to put together a nice spread for a million come over to Lone Mountain. In Summerlin or Henderson it will get you at best a nice home. Out our way you get a spread and a small mansion. Same true in some places in the SW and there are even a couple of places in the edge of Henderson.

So look around a bit before you jump.

Definitely, I will look around, and yeah I'm familiar with The Ridges. If I were building an ultimate dream home, I'd be there, but since even the smallest lots I've seen are $800-900K like you said, that's not realistic :P Sadly.

I would like to spend about $400,000 on a lot, probably a half acre from what I've seen seems realistic, and build a house about 4,500 square feet, concrete and modern construction. I notice that a lot of people get bored in their homes, and joke about "getting out more," I think I should help these poor souls. You are doing it wrong. Your house should be awesome enough that leaving it is not something you want to do often. In our current house our 800 square foot basement (daylight) has an air hockey table, arcade machine, pinball, home fitness equipment, a 75" 4K TV with 7.1 surround sound that was top of the line gear, a 65" secondary TV for gaming with friends, and every video game console. I LOVE being home, it's great! The best part of being in Vegas though would be adding a great outdoor space with a pool, hot tub, and fire pit (I have a hot tub here too though), plus knowing when you do want to go do something special you've got this amazing city as your playground.

While I understand what you're saying about Summerlin and the Knights players, let's be honest that's not really what I was referring to, just a recent example. This isn't like Summerlin just became cool because of the Knights. I have seen huge lists of famous people living in Summerlin, and I haven't even heard of one living in Henderson. That's all I'm saying, I'm sure you're right that some do, I have no clue, I'll take your word for it. I was just saying based on what I've heard it sure seems like the community has become known for that.

Is Lone Mountain extra far from the Strip though? I mean I think that'd be the right choice for someone really seeking more privacy and better views, but for us we still like to be really close to wherever it is we are going, whether that's Downtown Summerlin for instance or at least a freeway to get to the Strip quickly enough. I'm very lazy when it comes to leaving the house, especially because I try to make sure the house is an amazing place to be, so the further it is to get anywhere the less incentivized I am to leave. :P

What are the cool areas of Henderson by the way? I mean something like a Downtown Summerlin feeling, a great mall or a central area perhaps that has a lot of fun things to do, restaurants, etc.? I assume there are probably a couple of big centers like that (I want to check them out when we go look around and visit).

Also, is there another area I should be looking besides Henderson and Summerlin? If I am doing this looking 3 years down the road, a lot could change I presume, so maybe South Las Vegas would be worth looking into more?

We came to the Valley specifically to live in an active 55+ community. We compared ad nauseum! Visited all the communities we were interested in and focused on Summerlin because it was our preferred location. We even liked that our address could be “Las Vegas, NV” vs. “Henderson, NV”. But, alas, the community we felt best fit us was in Anthem/Henderson. We kept going back, for about 4 months, to Summerlin — hoping to find a house and 55+ community that felt as good to us. Finally just went with this place, haven’t been sorry; somehow we just knew where we belonged. But ours was a decision very specific to our social and recreational interests.

Listen to yourself; there’s no one right answer. Just check out all the areas that interest you.
I wish we could be in a 55+ neighborhood with really nice houses, that would hopefully weed out a bunch of kids all around us right?! LOL. I agree with you though, it sounds bad to say and yes it's a very minor reason on the long list of considerations, but I am not moving 1,000 miles away to be in "Henderson, NV," I want to be in Las Vegas, NV. Ultimately, I would still live in Henderson if it made the most sense, absolutely, I would have to just suck it up and get over it. But... it's something that matters to me. I never dreamed of living in Henderson, I dreamed of living in Las Vegas. :P

I faced the same choice a few months ago. After renting in both Summerlin and Anthem I purchased in Summerlin. I couldn’t be happier! The beauty, cleanliness, hiking, golf, shopping and dining cannot be beat. Even though similar properties were more in Summerlin it’s well worth the extra cost. Buy in Summerlin, you won’t be disappointed.

So true that Summerlin is actually changing their name to Sterilein in 2025

Seems to always to degenerate into a sword fight. Someone wants to tally celebrities as a decision tool and we all get silly.

Well, here in Henderson, we have wild unicorns that will walk up to you if you stand on a rainbow with a few sugar cubes or a carrot.
