As for being wrong, the police officer, among other things, claimed that students were not exempt, but he was being nice not to ticket them.

Turns out students are exempt.

I'm sure you're a nice guy, and hopefully a good cop, but don't be the jackass who writes tickets to a beurocracy -- that's not what this country needs at all. The last thing we need is more red tape.
Puddy:
Thanks so much for your post. And your research showing that students are exempt. (Military are too). You are right, the cop got mad. In a face to face situation you can not tell them they are wrong or they blow your brains out and plant an untraceable piece in your hand. So that made him quite angry when he was told he was wrong but could not retaliate. They are not used to that.

Anyway I got upset and ranted on because of the way he was bragging at giving (bogus) tickets. BRAGGING !!! How dare him come on here with that show. That very thing rubs alcohol in many of our faces. We see what goes on in Nevada which is ranked the most dangerous state in the nation. In a time when violent crime is down in America, the FBI in the November reports show violent crime is UP 32% in Nevada....AKA Las Vegas, and those cops are hiding in parking lots and profiling innocent citizens and tourists who dont have the same license plate as him.

As far as a dangerous job? Dont let them brainwash us like that. According to the govts occupational safety statistics, cops dont even rank in the top ten. In fact the cop trade is ranked 18th most dangerous. The top 17 catagorizes nearly every single one of us and what we do for a living. Me or you have just as good a chance of getting shot walking down the street as cops do when in a gun battle with a thug. Same odds.

Have a wonderful day.

Why dont you, I say you but I mean the policy of the dept, bother with red light runners? Why do you bother people cutting through a parking lot when others next to you are running lights? Why dont you respond to car thefts? Why do you hide in an industrial zone on a sunday morning giving out tickets for anything over 25 when there are people doing 90 on the highway? Why dont you respond period.

In a post some time ago I said that I witnessed the ex-Mayors home being ransacked and robbed. I took some heat for it by the usual Vegas defenders. The point is I called and the cops took 45 minutes to come and while the dispatcher continued to talk to me and called me back several times, she showed care. More then I can say for the single patrol car who ignored my waving arms while he talked about girls to the security guard.

Last October I just left my home and saw 2 guys pulling the copper wire from the light pole. I passed without looking and pulled over and called 911. She seemed concerned. Then the guys took off and I gave chase. She told me not to get hurt so stop chasing them. She then asked me what the license plate was. I said those people are illegals and dont get license plates. She seemed to lose interest. I know you are not allowed to stop them. I gave up the chase after several minutes because it was getting too dangerous. I drove around the area for 15 minutes looking for the white 95 Chevy Blazer. No cop ever came. That is sickening.

Again.....Im not pointing directy at you but rather the policies of the big white elephant you must follow. It is all wrong. None of you seem to care.

I and several neighbors submitted a service request for our street to be patroled for the drag racers. The city refuses to put stop signs on some of our cross streets. I as well as many of the neighbors are sick of rescuing people from accidents, right on my very corner. No one listens. Some of you would rather sit in hiding in the store parking lot catching people cutting through.
The reason I do not do those things is because I am not assigned to a traffic division. I simply go from call to call and clean up messes. When there are slow periods (yes we get 'em) I help out the traffic officers. Most of the time, though, I am running code 3 to calls for service. Last night I went to a drive by shooting. Took 11 hours. Sorry I wasn't available to stop a few red light runners. That is traffic's job. The 125 officers we have assigned to traffic, that is their job, to write traffic tickets. I am just general patrol. I am given a sector of the city and must patrol it. We have too many things to deal with and not enough manpower. Viper deals with street racing. Personally, I have never even encountered street racing. I have never sat in a private parking lot and abused my power by pulling someone over for cutting through private property. That is an abuse of power and should not be done. Unfortunately, my profession is an unnecessary evil in this society (I would love nothing more for police to not be needed). And with power comes corruption foe a small few, but let me assure you, none of the officers on my shift and in my division are corrupt. We all take our jobs very seriously. I cannot speak for others, but my own I know.

And to Puddy, I did admit I was wrong on the fact of students being exempt. I am a student as well and should have known that. My apologies. I never once got defensive for being wrong. I can admit when I am wrong. I was defensive over other issues.

DesertSun, Bragging? I was far from it. Simply stating what is done on our streets. No bragging at all. I'm sorry you see it that way. I admitted I was wrong about the students. I'm sorry I could not convey my true feelings through a keyboard. This forum is just like the attitudes of our city. The one I am trying to help keep livable. This entire Valley is against government corruption, and rightfully so, but the mob mentality does us no good either. I am resigning from this forum, It has just gotten too out of hand for me, I have better things to do.

Crime is up in Nevada, but your flawed logic of grouping all of Nevada into Las Vegas is the on track with your ignorance. Crime is Down in North Las Vegas (the ONLY municipality I am concerned with). Get off your high horse and try seeing both sides of an argument.

It is sad... thats all. Hope you don't have kids. Goodbye everyone.

thanks dyn... I think it's all a buncha bs. but who knows?

I guess in the end it wouldn't matter, since whenever I'm out there, I have a rental car, so i've already got the NV plates.. just sucks that I end up paying full prices to get into bars and clubs because I don't have a local ID.

*sigh* oh well, whattya gonna do?

I have yet to see one of these seasonal IDs myself. It's not even in my reference manual.
