Is drunk driving banned? Yes.
Do the police try to enforce it? Yes.
Are there still a lot of drunk drivers? Yes. In fact drunk drivers have killed 3 times more people than guns so far in 2016.
Is anyone suggesting we stop having laws? No.
Laws are written to allow punishment after the fact. Drunk driving can be minimized by breathalyzers in cars. Won't stop them all, but it would stop a lot.
Figuring out why people drink to excess and treating that.
Mandatory 5 years in prison for first time offense. Way to many people have multiple duis. 3 times is a pattern.
Mandatory 10 years in prison if you cause a wreck whilst drunk driving.
Mandatory life in prison if you kill someone whilst drunk driving.
These laws won't stop people from drinking and driving, but it will provide adequate punishment for those that do.
I feel the same way about guns and fireworks and everything else.
Shoot a firework and burn down a house or catch something on fire mandatory 5 years in prison.
If someone dies from your firework mandatory life in prison.
Have a gun? Cool. Shoot someone with it intentionally (not self defense) and they live mandatory 10 years in prison.
If they die mandatory life in prison.

None of this 6 months for a swimming rapist crap. Mandatory no ifs ands or butts.

"Make noise and are annoying" ? Do yourself a favor and do a quick google search on firework injuries and deaths....and get back to me !

As you review the well documented cases of injury and death secondary to the discharge of illegal fireworks, I would further add one more point for consideration.

Those very "freedoms" expressed on July 4th were brought to by many young men and women that at one point in their life wrote a blank check to our government, to protect the very intent and purpose of "Independance Day"...they are called veterans.

Many, at one point or other found themselves in a war zone, a place where unexpected explosions had only one meaning...many still carry a very high sensitivity to loud unexpected noises...

It does not take but one loud unexpected discharge, to bring that veteran (young and old) right back to a place they would rather forget. Let that sink in for a moment !

A man's home still is his castle. Beyond the injury, potential death, and criminal and civil liability, those illegal fireworks have NO place in an uncontrolled, residential area...

Read the disclaimers clearly posted at the "res"....trust me...they get it...!

It would be amazing if you could explain how you hope to stop tens of thousands of people from shooting off fireworks in Las Vegas with 1300 police officers.

Until such time as the supplier (the res) stops selling...it won't happen....Back in the day there were random car checks similar to a DUI checkpoint, however manpower limited that effort. The 4th is a very busy holiday and LEO will not tie up resources to bust the countless violators, usually amounting to a misdemeanor charge that gets reduced or tossed. If daddy blows off a hand, it sucks to be him....(see Darwin Theory).

Where I have seen significant penalty assessed, that you never hear about, is on the civil end. Let a kid blow off a hand or a couple fingers, and present to an ER and watch Mom and Dad explain how it occurred...it's not pretty !

Perhaps stiffer, enforced penalties...word travels fast...

It basically boils down to personal responsibility and respect. It's all fun and games until one of those lit charges goes in an unintended direction, and the fun suddenly stops.

It may never be "stopped", however it could be strongly deterred !

Why do you ignore the drug problem? People risk life and limb to transport drugs across borders, across state lines, with heavy risks heavily enforced. We have people eating condoms full of drugs, going through customs, pooping them out, and giving them to a supplier to give to local dealers to give to kids to sell to citizens.
China will execute you for using drugs and their drug problem is increasing.
Every time we try to stop drugs, more people start using drugs.

It's basic psychology. "don't touch the red switch" you're so going to touch that red switch.

The principal is the same.....

You say that stopping suppliers will stop fireworks.
That did nothing to stop drug usage and in fact made it worse.

You say harsher punishments will stop fireworks.
China literally kills people for drugs. It doesn't stop it.

Your offered solutions don't work in the real world. This is what I am trying to get Americans to understand about problem solving. A lot of solutions are counter intuitive.

Let's try this...If people could not drive 30 miles and purchase something that is illegal except on that property....it just might deter use. If possession of an illegal firework were classified a felony...it might make the user less enticed to possess. You can't compare this subject with illegal drug use...unless you are suggesting people are addicted to fireworks. The drug issue is quite more complex than what you submit.
