Some people do not comprehend what the actual return on play amounts to. I played a quarter machine at Red Rock and lost about $120. My Players Card showed I had accumulated 1026 points. When I went to turn them in, that amounted to...........$1.02. Which would you say is the best value? Paying for a room or $120 dinner or making a donation to Red Rock that returned $1.02?

That is why one shouldn't "play for comps". One, if they are entertained by gambling, gambles for only that reason. For enjoyment. If a casino offers any comps, that's just gravy. That is my take, anyway. I don't gamble for the free rooms, free meals, free concerts. I get those things, but would never gamble away a few hundred for a $29 concert ticket. That doesn't make sense to me. I do enjoy what the casinos give me, but I'm there anyway, as I enjoy gambling.

This is what I do with the added component that I will direct my play to a casino that will give me something for the little play that I do give them. I could play penny slots at Rio or Gold Coast and spend the same amount on similar machines, however I am more likely to get a room comp at Gold Coast for $200 through the machines than I am at Rio so I play at Gold Coast.

Why would anyone goto Vegas if not to gamble.

And if you do why wouldn't you want something extra for doing something you are going to do anyways. No different than getting pts or cash back for using credit cards.

Many people are going to Las Vegas to not gamble and have been doing so in increasing amounts over many years now, spending more money on food, shows, concerts, shopping, clubs, just hanging out, etc. as the chart below shows:

Las Vegas Gaming Vs Non-Gaming Revenue - Business Insider

OP, as many have suggested, if you are going to play, sign up for the player's club card. It is a smart move. Some players clubs will even send you offers with zero play. We've gotten some great deals this way, especially in some of the downtown casinos. Not free but close enough for me.

A few other ways to get deals is buying coupon books. The "American Casino Guide" which can be purchased for < $15 in bookstores/online has some good coupon deals in it. Many 2 for 1 dining/buffet coupons, match play, free slot play, buy room night(s) get another free, etc. Mostly Las Vegas deals and some in other states. Our favorite is the Las Vegas Advisor coupon book from Anthony Curtis. We've gotten great use in the dining deals all over Las Vegas in this book. You also become a member to his website when you buy this coupon book and have access to Las Vegas casino deals all over the city that are updated/added often, often with food, drink, and/or show comps. We once got 2 free show tickets to Beatles Love and all we had to do is stay 2 nights at a cheap rate at the MGM.

Not to mention better pay tables at Gold Coast compared to any CET prop.

They might come here because the flights are cheaper, the weather is fantastic, a five star hotel is less expensive here and we have some of the best chefs in the country. You can experience a wonderful vacation if you are wise enough not to make donations to the casino, in the name of "gambling." It's not winners that keep all this infrastructure going and contibute to our low property taxes.

I go to Vegas all the time, and I don't gamble. I have no interest in it. The only time I spend in casinos is when I have to walk through to get from my room to outside (and hold my breath because of the smoke). To think that gambling is the only thing to do there is an outdated notion.

Stay in Vegas free = have relatives or a best friend living here.

Couldn't agree more. Walk everywhere, drink 24/7 without judgement, sun always shines. No need to gamble here!!
