You're proving the point of these studies -- but probably not intentionally.

You can wire a person up to an EEG, show them disturbing images, and predict with great accuracy that person's political stripe based on how they react to those images. I'm sure that you can make the same prediction based on sloppy syntax and grammar in Internet forums. But this is anecdotal evidence -- not the result of a real study.

That's what I was thinking. Just thinking of locations on the west coast, the places that came to mind were:

Seattle, WA
Portland, OR
Humboldt County, CA
SF Bay Area, esp. Marin and Berkeley

OP can't afford Seattle or the Bay Area. Job opportunities in his field would be limited in Humboldt County. So that left Portland.

Isn't this quite obvious? It's like showing anti-religious chants/images to a devout Christian and studying the reaction. Or religious symbols to an Atheist. Shocking the results, eh?

These "studies" say much about nothing other than to state the obvious.

I think it goes back to nature/nurture and as always, often the reality is somewhere in the middle. Though on all sides of the spectrum, some of us wear our bias on our sleeves a bit more in the open for the world to see in a most obvious manner.

And that's the difference between believing something to be true, and researching a hypothesis to separate fact from fiction.

We've known since the first page of this thread (post #8, in fact) that Portland isn't an option for OP.

One of the interesting things about Slightly Crunchy Doctors' Wives is that it's made up of all kinds of people of various political persuasions.

We've got conservatives, moderates, libertarians and liberals. Some are gun carrying and pro gun rights. Some are terrified of guns. Some live in the city. Some live in suburbia. Some live in the country. Some have land and some don't.

There are all different religions as well. For example some are conservative Mormons and some are liberal Mormons. Yes, liberal Mormons do exist. Some are catholic. Some baptist. Some Christian. Some are spiritual and not religious. The group even includes various sexual orientations where some are lesbians that weave their own stuff.

There's a group that does baby wraps. A group that does natural HypnoBirths. A group into aromatherapy. A group of dietitians for various diets such as vegetarianism, vegan, ect. There are various levels of opinions on vaccinations. Some are more into environmental issues and animal rights. Some recycle and are into sustainability. Many are into yoga and whole foods.

Some times the conversations would get heated because of these various beliefs but the common theme is to keep it respectful and to always say things from a position of love and mutual respect when discussing things they're passionate about.

KNPR did a recent piece on the state of recycling in Las Vegas. It's around a half hour long if you want to give it a listen.

Separate or Single-Stream? Recycling in Las Vegas

Also this is about 5 minutes long Nevada Organic Producers Rush To Find New Certifier

Recycling in Las Vegas is a joke. What are you supposed to do with plastic types 3 thru 7? Oh right, dump them in the trash.

The pants are made of luon, the primary fabric found in most of Lululemon's performance wear products. Luon, which is trademarked by the Lululemon, is 86 percent nylon and 14 percent Lycra.

Nylon, of course, is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers, more specifically aliphatic or semi-aromatic polyamides. Lycra (or Spandex or elastane) is yet another synthetic fiber; it's a polyester-polyurethane copolymer.

Doesn't sound very crunchy compared to a more sustainable fabric such as cotton.
The yoga pants I own are made of cotton.

I agree that Portland, OR might be a better fit for the OP.

Thanks for the suggestion. But Portland is WAY too far from any of my family. Everyone's in the Southwest and one of our main reasons for moving is to be closer to my family again (and get back to beautiful desert life! I'm so sick of the seasons out here in the east!)

However, as previously posted, OP has no interest in Portland, as it is too far from family for the OP
