See your thread "Where is 89145". I hope you didn't buy a pig in a poke.

Don't worry, I just wanted to use that expression.

To Jeannine:

89145 is near Summerlin so it's a nice area. The College of Southern Nevada (CSN)...Charleston campus (89146) is near this area.

The main cross streets in this area are Charleston and Rainbow.

There is a public library on the college campus.

I don't know the name of this area but it's near Spring Valley.

I'm sure you'll like where you live.

Question another puzzled couple-- summerlin or lone mtn.

Hi-- We are in the same boat. Married 30 somethings with a dog -- looking for a house with a pool or pool size lot. We have narrowed in on Summerlin and Lone Mountain. The summerlin houses are resale and the lone mtn one is new. Problem we are having is we know we love summerlin, but LM gives us bit more for the money.
Does anyone know the long term plans for LM? Is it considered 'undesirable? We dont plan on leavign for a long time--so Im not worried about sort term losses...

We just dont know what to do and we have to be out there before Dec!!!

Any help!!!!!!!

Lone mountain is still a choice for many. There is nothing wrong with that area. Alot of nice houses. And nice neighborhoods.

North Las Vegas is nice and you get the most bang for your buck. Still has a bit of an image problem due to its past(see the "City of NLV image" thread)
Look from Craig Road and further North and West of I-15. Though there are some other areas in the valley that are nicer, this is at least middle class, and lots of Nellis AFB people live here.
Lots of new housing areas will appeal to you.
If you don't have kids all the better. Retail businesses are slowly moving in after extremely fast residential growth.
The master planned community of Aliante is as good as any. Buy near that community for good deals to get the rub-off effect. Stations Casino will open Aliante Station there next year, expect increasing values and lots of action

The real answer, is that I totally enjoy the LV forum. The people who post here really represent a cross-section of the nation because, well, 98% are from across the nation! I find the posters here to be emphatic and animated, and for the most part, quite intelligent. I also find the newcomer's perceived notions of the place so damn interesting.

This LV forum is not that much different than LV itself...wild, 24/7, and outrageous non-stop action! This forum is downright addictive, like gambling, itself!

Viva, Las Vegas...Viva, Las Vegas... Viva, Las Vegas...Forum!

Default Filipino neighborhoods?

hi all, i just landed a job in Las Vegas paying around 70k/yr, and so we think we can afford about 190k mortgage. I will be house hunting when i get there, and renting on a month to month basis till i close a deal. As another point of my situation , I have a wife and 1yr old son. My wife is Filipino, and would really like to find a neighborhood that is safe for our family foremost, but also having a heavier density of Filipinos (if such an enclave exists). I will be working from my home, so locale is not an issue, in that regard. Appreciate anyone's input on this particular point.
