...To have a Texas governor stick his nose into your local economy and try to pull what has become a "Las Vegas institution" of sorts over to his state?

That's what Texas Gov. Rick Perry is trying to do with the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas. And if he succeeds, the damage he will do the Clark County economy will be catastrophic.

It really sucks when someone comes into your state and tries to lure the things you've created and economically depend on away from you and destroy your economy, doesn't it?

I sincerely hope that Las Vegas can stave off pirate extraordinaire Rick Perry, keep the NFR, and not have it leave to Texas or Florida.

But there is a lesson in all of this for Nevada (if you pay attention), which is:

It really sucks when states, their politicians and state agencies actively try to pirate business off of you and destroy your economy. Nevada actively participated in this sort of thing for years and targeted California. Rick Perry and Texas have also been doing it to us, as well. They think they are being "job creators" but they are actually what I like to call "job pirates" because it was California and Californians that were innovative and job creators, just like it was Las Vegas and Nevada that put on good rodeos, not Texas!

Something to think about, now that you know what it feels like...

Well I live here and can tell you it is a non issue whether or not we have the rodeo. I cannot see how this has any effect in my personal life, or most others to be honest. If you can tell me how this will affect me in any way I am all ears.

Well, first of all, it's pretty much the only thing keeping the economy of Las Vegas (and by extension, Nevada) afloat for the last week in November and pretty much most of December. So, no, it may not directly effect you in the immediate sense, but it will effect the local economy, which will assuredly negatively impact you and the greater community at some point in the future.

I agree with you that it will affect the local economy, but I still disagree that it would affect me in any way directly. I have never gone to it. I will say that I would be more concerned if I had a job on the strip.

This story was covered extensively in the news and on this board in another thread, read the story from John Kats in the RJ.

No, LV will not sink into the desert if in fact, the NFR DOES relocate. Read the story.

Las Vegas ready to sweep out Wrangler NFR, but PRCA says,

Las Vegas Events reps have cut off negotiations with the PRCA before any formal contract has been signed to actually move the WNFR out of Las Vegas after 2014.

Seems like LV is kickin' the cowboy wranglers out and playing hardball.

But not yet, lol

Maybe the powers that be in LV have something else cooking for that 10 day slot. Read that in the article too

You know, every state does this to every other state. Whatever. It's when the jobs go overseas that we all get screwed.

Las Vegas is thinking about hosting it's own rodeo event and several prominent cowboys are supporting that.
People have been coming here for Cowboy Christmas and NFR for decades. They probably have favorite hotels and restaurants that they want to return to. They may have made some local friends, even. The rodeo, for some, is an excuse to come back to Vegas.

Now, Texas or Florida might get NFR, but the regulars are going to be pretty irritated when they try to get a meal at 10pm after the rodeo and everything in town is closed except Denny's.

There are. They want a bigger purse of prize money, and our stadium is not on the playing field with the one in Dallas.

Since when did Texas get in this battle? I thought it was going to Florida? I wouldn't blame Texas for going after the NFR, it does make sense to have it there. But they wouldn't be able to use the Cowboy Stadium because it would run at the same time as the final stretch of the NFL regular season.
