Is craigslist my only option? Not seeing much on Autotrader, lvrj or sun.

don't people just go with blue book value, plus or minus a few hundred dollars based on the current condition of the car?
But if you are shopping for bargains, no, CarMax or any car dealer (or the majority of car owners) are not going to give the car away.

Scott, another advantage is that if you purchase a used car from a person there is no sales tax on the transaction. If you purchase from a dealer then the 8.1% Nevada sales tax applies.

To the OP, I've had the same question and just like you I've only found craigslist to be the best source.

You think it is a bad idea to buy from craigslist?

You just have to be careful.

Make sure the title is in the seller's name.

Run a carfax to make sure car isn't flood or salvage.

Not at all, we have had good experiences buying several things from craigslist including a used car.

Of course, do your due diligence and be sure to play it smart. If you get bad vibes just move along, and if the seller seems to want to meet at fishy places or late at night etc, just pass - use your good judgement. I'm sure there are some scams on there, but you can usually tell by the price to begin with. If it seems too good to be true....

I have sold or have helped sell over 2 dozen cars in this town. Parking a car with a "for sale" sign in the window at a busy corner of an intersection works great, but its illegal. But a car will sell very quick. Craigslist works second best.

Craigslist is free, everyone uses it, very simple to use, it's free, a seller can post as many listings as they want(if they don't get caught), and its free.

You can also try cars.com. If you use the advanced search option, you can screen for private party sellers only.
