Do people commute from outside of Las Vegas to work? I would like to transfer to a casino out there, and I'm considering a position, but I don't know if I want to live in the city? Would it be illogical to live outside and commute in?

the valley is a bowl, everybody or at least most everybody lives within the bowl...visit first before deciding if you want to live here.. casino employment is brutal.. you are a number.. that's it...

There is no "outside" Las Vegas. It's nothing like back east where there is a little town a horseback ride away wherever you are. We are a metropolitan area surrounded by "empty" desert. Nearest towns are miles from here and not really what you'd call bedroom communities. The only "commute" is 65 miles away in Pahrump and you would probably get really sick of both Pahrump and the commute within a month. I suppose you could consider Boulder City a commute, but it is expensive if you can find a place to live, the drive would soon grow old there too. You just need to visit first and see what it's like. It's not like what you imagine, believe me.

She doesn't mind the drive, (shrug) I used to work in Princeton NJ, which was a 1.5 hr drive each way
after awhile, you get in the car, and then your there.. what happens in between is a blur

I dont need to live within walking distance of my job, but I would not want a commute over an hour. If you work till 5 then you get home after 6...that's just eating up too much of my time.

My commute now is about 15 minutes, no freeway needed. On a good traffic and green light day, I am there in 12. That's just about right.

I live 8.4 miles from Caesars Palace, rent is cheap, secure, clean and quiet...though not deemed the best area of town. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to work.
