Oh yeah, Summerlin has something like 125 or 185 miles of desert trails. The one I like starts at Lake Mead and Buffalo in the Pueblo area. You'll feel like you're alone in the desert but you're in a nice neighborhood. Great scenery and all kinds of unusual birds and lots of little critters to see running around, like a buzzillion chipmunks.

I walked the strip because it has tall buildings to deflect the wind, plus there's lots to look at. I walked a lot less than I had previously (or do now) due to the weather but I did it whenever I could.

My wife and I like to do a Strip hike now and then when the weather is cooler. You'd be surprised what you miss on the Strip when you never get out of your car.

I've been doing the strip thing but really appreciate all the other advice. I am going to take a peak at the desert trails as well when my girl and I have the time to do it together. The strip is just a fun experience and the sights are distracting, plus more stairs and places to rest when I chose to.

Thanks again for all the advice.

PS. Ron Paul 2008!

My killer Lhasa Apsos and I took a long walk in the desert by Tule Springs today. It was a little windy but that just cooled things off for us. We didn't even cover 1/100th of the area out there and we walked for an hour. If you drive to the end of the entrance road and park you'll see that there is wide open desert. It's full of dirt roads and horse trails that you can follow, or just wonder around across the open desert. Just make sure you keep track of the way back to the park and don't get lost. Saw several jack rabbits but no snakes. And guess what, after spending most of my life here I had never been to the gun club on the other side of the fence from Tule Springs so I checked it out today. I had no idea there was a nice bar and sometime restaurant in that building. I thought it was just a maintenance building. I also found that you can rent guns which was my big question since I don't have one suitable for trap or skeet. As soon as I heal up I plan to kill me some skeets; maybe bring home a mess for dinner.

Just watch out for OJ while you're walkin'...especially if he has gloves on!

Actually, I'm expecting a high speed Bronco chase down I-15 from him anyday now... Well, as high as you can get with all that traffic!
