I don't think that you were discriminated against because of your age in your interview. Had to be other factors as to why you weren't hired.

GAL FRIDAY have not heard that term used it over 35 plus years. WOW

Just tune in to "Mad Men."

Temping has gotten me out of more than one employment bind in my life. I've been through a few recessions now. And temping got me into the doors of companies that were looking for help -- but usually looking for someone that defies hiring through classified ads.

It took going through a lot of placements, but eventually I was able to find businesses that made sense for me as a worker, and for them as employers.

But here in Las Vegas, I'd go take ANY job at a casino. Anything at all. Doesn't matter. On call steady extra toilet scrubber? Sure thing. I'll take that. Because I'd be the BEST on call steady extra toilet scrubber they've ever seen. And I'd sign every single job sheet hanging on every single corkboard in every single back hallway. I'd make a nuisance of myself applying for jobs until they realized they weren't getting rid of me until I got the job I wanted.

Within a few months, anyone can be on the career path they want -- if they have a good attitude. Less than a year, they should be in the job they want -- if they have a good attitude and some skills.

I am so confused. Was it "the interview didn't go well' or that the OP is not getting any interviews? Hmmm?

Anyway, I have chickens to paint and weasels to wash, and come to think of it, they don't even say "sheep dip" anymore. What's up with that?

That is hilarious. I am from Ohio too, but I don't talk like that. (thank goddess) Most of my relatives still call it hogwarsh and when doing dishes, it's always "warshing the dishes." I bet I would also be like that too if my Dad wasn't running from bill collectors back in the late 60's and moved us from Ohio to California. Instead i learned about peace signs and hippies.

A few people around here do say warsh, but not many thankfully!

Young and hot is where it's at for many of the service industry type jobs. Too bad but true. At 47 you MAY be at the end of your career track for spa jobs because what are you really selling? Youth. And lotions and potions that make you look younger/better.

You may want to look into other possibilities. Pay is dismal here and it really doesn't matter all that much what you do. Just find anything you can. Get in the door.

If the OP really looks mid-20's, maybe she should prepare a resume in a format that does not require dates. This way her experience, accomplishments and abilities can be highlighted, without drawing attention to the fact that she has MANY years at each job. I am 54 and just landed a decent job here. It can be done. I am going to go to school to become a paralegal, but in the interim I landed a job that pays enough to meet the bills, is low stress and gives me time to pursue other interests. Age can be a factor for SOME jobs, but there are many other options out there.

if you feel that you were not hired because of your age, I suggest you do a lillte detective work and see if they have any employees over 4o if they do then it had nothing to do with your age it had to do with the fact that they did not find you right for the job.

A person over 40 may look very youthful, but to a 20 year old, they always look old.
