I am 51 years old and had been looking for a hotel job since I had years of experience. I had little interest from any of the strip hotels and besides, most if not all strip hotels only seem to hire for part time or on call. I would suggest applying at non-strip hotels - Station Casinos, M Resort, Lake Las Vegas Hotels or in spas not in hotels. Keep your spirits up, apply in person when possible, stay off Craigslist job openings - most are scams or you never will get replies, and good luck. It took me two months to get hired, but I have since changed career paths.

So, take the on-call job and work your way up. That's how everyone else did it. Why should anyone go straight to the head of line for a full time job?

I just don't understand this "age discrimination". I never had problem in the city I lived before. Is Vegas not for over 40yrs single ladies(or even gentlemen) that need jobs? Is city quietly saying that you are too old to get job in Vegas, so go away!! go different place? If so, this is not fair at all. Does anybody know about this "age discrimination" behind the companies?
I am 70. My Boss is 56, one of my supervisors is 65 3 of the people in my office are over 55 years old and they have been hired in the last 12 months.
your premise is hogwash.

We don't use the word "hogwash" nearly enough these days.

A friend of mine just got a job in an office doing gal Friday type work (clerical-answer phone, type invoices, open mail, greet clients).

Full time 9-5 with bennies after 3 months.

She's 53 years old.

I don't think that you were discriminated against because of your age in your interview. Had to be other factors as to why you weren't hired.

I think the OP is at least partially right. I was 55 when I moved to Las Vegas - without a job but with a year's savings set aside. It took me a year to find a full-time job, and before I did, I encountered some situations that definitely smelled of age discrimination. None of the prospective employers was dumb enough to tell me straight out, "You're too old," but it certainly was implied.

Fortunately for me, the company that eventually hired me looked at my previous experience at a positive, not my age as a negative. There are other companies out there with the same philosophy.

I hope the OP finds a job worthy of his talents.
