Hey all. In about a month I will be moving from Indiana to Henderson to start a new job. From a lot of my research about Henderson, I understand it to be a pretty nice place for families and popular for people who have recently retired.

What kind of city is it for a single male in his early 20s? I know Vegas is right by, but I would assume that going and being around tourists and the strip all the time would get old very quickly. I guess I'm really wondering where are some great local spots for younger people and does anyone have any links that could point me toward some good information about activities there are in the Henderson area?

Thanks for your time!

It is fine for 20-somethings. Plenty to do.

At the end of the day, it comes down to lifestyle preference. You might want to rent a place near Green Valley Resort/The District as a starting point (google "The District near Henderson NV"). Or maybe Town Square (Town Square Las Vegas).

In terms of lifestyle, I much prefer a nice bar or pub where I can have a fun or intelligent conversation with friends. I'm not into the club scene really at all.

You'll love The District, I think.

Bars and pubs are for people who want to bathe in the smoke and pale blue light of video poker machines.

There isn't much intelligent conversation going on in Las Vegas "pubs." I don't even want to call them pubs because all they are is video poker emporiums which happen to serve alcohol.

No one here is a young professional, or at least the young professionals that most major cities have. The Vegas idea of a young professional is a community college graduate working a 30k/year job with irregular hours in the service industry.

It makes sense - the area has no urban living, very few jobs that pay well, and is extremely uneducated.

Everyone is either a retiree from the East Coast/Midwest, or a California reject bringing their baggage with them.

Scoop is right about the bars. All the bars are filled with smoke, video poker, and dumb people. Casinos get old after a while.

To the city's credit, there's lots of sports leagues to get involved in, but the town is so transient with people moving in/out all the time that it's hard to meet people who can commit.

I really hope I'm wrong on anything I'm saying, because I'm tired of not meeting anyone in their 20s who doesn't meet any of the criteria above.

How true is this statement now?

Zing-
Don't let the negative posters on CD get you down. I have several friends, in their 20's, who love living in LV and/or Henderson. Get involved with groups - play in a softball league, bowling league, do religious stuff, join a professional group, join Rotary, etc.... Get out and meet people and you will meet lots of good people!

Oh ya, and root for the Vegas Golden Knights!
