That's really not an accurate representation of teachers as a whole. Sure, in a school district ranked one of the worst it might be but I've had some great teachers who were well respected.

I don't think teaching should be a "fall back" position, something you do when your real interest doesn't work out. I think it's a calling, and frankly, I love it. I really do. I tell my students that I learn so much from them, I should be paying *them*, and not the other way around.

Classroom teaching is fun, too; it's always different, always interesting, and always rewarding. I've taught in public school, private universities and state universities. I'd do it for free, I swear. I think it's a honor to do it, in fact.

What I'm sorry about is that there are people who get off on denigrating others, putting them down without knowing anything real about them, and hiding behind anonymous accounts. I think it's cowardly and disreputable.

Just getting back to my point, not meant to be directed towards the OP so much as teachers in general.

Come on, teachers realize this is a tight economy, for themselves as well as everyone else. Just try to take that into consideration when making and grading assignments. If a teacher can realize the economy is tight for them, its tight for all parents. come down a little with the artsy-fartsy projects, and get real in grading. That rubic "creative" or "original" really means "spent a lot of money on bling at Hobby Lobby" and "this is something I can display in my room or the display case and make me look good".

Look, teachers have it tough economically, but fail to realize so do most parents!

Oh, well....good luck to the OP in her and dh new teaching jobs, we need good teachers!Hope it all works out for you!

No idea about what people hear but the strip has been packed the last 3 nights I have been here and the casinos were taking plenty of money..It was AWESOME to be back home, even if it is for 5 nights...My wife had plenty of great interveiws and is hoping for some news soon...Went on a boring time share so we could get some great tickets and dining cards; looked at some homes that were possible destinations; and walking through the Monte Carlo Monday night heard a guard say free beer and food right here at The Pub, seems there was a beer tasting conference going on so we went in and drank free beer and had good food for about 2 hours!! Tonight we are hitting Dick's last resort for the first time and then Tony and Tinas wedding Wed.

The economy in Vegas is in shambles. Don't let the numbers fool you... anyone working in either of the major trades in Las Vegas (hospitality and construction/engineering) is on the front lines of the worst boom-to-bust story seen in decades in this country.

There are people out there doing very well, but for every one success story (someone who hasn't had their pay/hours cut or been laid off since the housing crash), there's ten more who have lost everything.

Well then, considering our steady population in the valley, there must be a lot of successful stories out there, or else they would have high tailed it out of town long ago.
