Is proximity to the nearest Outback Steakhouse a factor in selecting a property?

Do you want a garage? Without it any car at the place has a sign on it...please burgle me. With a garage your choices drop to 20% of without one. Want to deal with shorts...probably two thirds of the available places are shorts. Nothing wrong with buying a short. Just takes a while and you need to bid morte than one if you want a fair chance of success.

Think about it. You can do it but you need to be very cautious. And I think you probably need to spend $110k or a little more. And you need to armor the place. These are not neighborhoods were an unattended place is a good idea.
Thanks for the tip, olecapt. Yes, am aware of dangers of leaving a home unattended for any length. However... I will probably employ someone to check in on it, plus it's likely to have visitors for much of the year. We're looking at spending about three or four months a year there (we are both freelancers and work from home, so working from Vegas is no different) and I have a MASSIVE family (eldest of 9), and they all want to come over and hang out, which they're welcome to do. Add in my boyfriend's family and all our mates... and the house probably wont be empty for more than a couple of months at a time. As for the crime in these areas... I've checked many of the crime maps and - honestly - it doesn't seem that bad. In fact, my area in Sydney is probably worse. Actually, it IS worse. Of course, I need to talk to some locals and neighbours, but... well, I'm not the kind of guy who sits around worrying about his stuff all the time anyway. If someone rips off my car or steals my TV... meh.

Oh, and a short sale is fine by me. As is a shabbier, older house - you should see the state of the real estate here! Even the oldest houses look pretty good to us. Got one you wanna sell me??? I'm paying cash ; )

I'd never heard of it before going to America. Weirdly, they now have them here. But only, like, 2.

OK - YOu appear rational in your desire. Get one with a garage though. An exposed car on a second home is simply too obvious for the local teenagers to passup.

There are a half dozen shorts that would meet your needs...You should likely bid on all that are acceptable.

If you just want someplace to go for vacation I would get a condo. For 70K you won't find anything on the strip though.

Nah. I like my own space. I find condos claustrophobic. I'd rather a dump with a yard where I can have a barbecue than a nice condo with half a dozen neighbours.
