If we purchase a vacation home and we are from out of country is there a way I can purchase a hand gun. I'm not sure what kind of NV ID I would have

Don't see why not, but more research is needed. Start here.

Check with a gun store. If I were you, I would only trust someone that's in the business of selling guns for an answer to that question.

I do believe that there willbe an issue since you said you are not from the US. Gun smuggling is currently a VERY big issue in the US

2. nonimmigrant aliens entering the United States to participate in a competitive target shooting event or to display firearms at a sports or hunting trade show sponsored by a national, State, or local firearms trade organization devoted to the collection, competitive use or other sporting use of firearms;

Check with the DMV. If you can get a seasonal ID, then you should be able to buy a firearm. I am from out of state and checked at a gun store about a purchase. They will accept a seasonal ID to sell you a firearm. For me it's just a convenience, so I won't have to go through the hassle of transporting a firearm on an airline flight.

He can easily buy a gun. Not hard. However if he should use it even for good cause I would think it virtually certain he will be charged and convicted of at least a misdemeanor.

That has substantial repercussions.

I dont know of ANY country that will allow a 'tourist' to purchase a gun ... let alone the USA that has stood up an entire department with the sole focus of protecting its citizens from possible terrorist strikes on its own soil. Though i was in thailand and was told for a little $$ you can go somewhere to shoot M-60's, grenade launchers, etc..but under close supervision and on an isolated island.

You did not mention if you are a 'citizen' living out of the country or what. Just my 2 cents, but seems kind of an odd question to ask for your second post in the forum.
