hi everyone,
I currently live in Hawaii. I accepted a job at the Mike O'Callaghan VA Hosp and will probably start in 2 months... I'm looking for .. yes... a safe place to live, preferably close to the hospital... i probably can afford $600-700/month in rent

i saw someone suggested Summerlin Entrada as a safe condo. Anyone has any experience with this area? Google direction said ~20-25 min drive? is this data accurate... my working hour probably 7am - 6pm; or 1pm - 11pm

if anyone can offer some insight... thank you so much

I would also consider Los Prados, El Dorado and Aliante in North Las Vegas (all good areas) for a rental. Much closer to the new hospital and even less commute time.

Entrada is OK, but that google time is with no traffic. 7AM to 6 PM shift is the heart of rush hour, so it might take a bit longer to get to and from the hosp from Summerlin during those times.

Summerlin-Entrada is borrowing the Summerlin name but isn't actually in Summerlin. It's on Rock Springs between Vegas Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard, very close to U.S. 95. So, it's a little closer to the hospital than Summerlin is.

If the OP is starting in two months, it will be at the old Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital on the grounds of Nellis AFB. It's a combination VA/Air Force hospital. The new hospital isn't scheduled to be open until fall of 2012.

Summerlin-Entrada... I would say no. It's not that the neighborhood itself is bad, but have heard not-so-great things about the apartments from former tenants. Mom-mom's advice is very good. Also, parts of lower Centennial Hills that are close to the 215 wouldn't be bad. Keep in mind that no matter where you commute from, you are going to have to add a little extra time to get in the entrance gate at the base.

thanks all for responding. I just read not so great reviews about the Summerlin-Entrada as well. I will look for other places... i am looking for places which have lots of shading trees, no scorpions... yikes.. safe, near work place, easy to get to the strip, great amenities, W/D in unit, and affordable, etc... seems like i'm asking for too much :P ?!!! if anyone has any other recs... pls let me know, thank you.

and yes, the new VA hosp won't be completed until 2012. That's what I've been told
