i haven't read this whole thread, but with 3 million people visiting a month, i doubt vegas is going anywhere anytime soon.

we had super bowl in january in miami. i seriously doubt there was 3 million people here for that event. miami beach is dying or on its way to dead.

vegas will never die or wither away.
ever.

for the last 5 weekends in a row we have been 100% occupied EVERY FI, SAT & SUN. with room rates approaching $179 per night. During the week we are less occupied and with considerably lower rates but still holding our own.

It is harder word to get there then it ever was before and for the most part rates are significantly lower but we WILL survive.

The only stats that matter in this fight are the ones pertaining to the amount being gambled in the joints and retained by the house...not room occupancy. Vegas, without the support of gambling, will become another big Branson, MO....God help us!

So...everybody get in those casinos and do your part....lose BIG!

First, who is WE? Which property? I would hazard to guess with all of the special offers and the like that I am getting, that their are very few properties that are full every weekend. Three years ago, you would be lucky to find a room under $150 in ANY Strip Hotel or under $100 on weekends.

Second, in many proproperties, a full house upstairs pretty much translates to a better take in the casino.

When Southwest starts reducing flights into Las Vegas as they have done for next quarter, that is a clear indication that they are forecasting lighter demand in Las Vegas. And to a point, it is also a self fulfuiing prophesy. If fewer seats are available into McCarren, fewer people head to Las Vegas from those markets affected.

All the special offers go out and ALL are "Based upon Availability" We are filling up BUT it is last minute calls...last weekend for example we filled the remaining 280 rooms in the las 4 days befor the weekend... on friday we had 12 rooms left and were selling only MiniSuites at $179. MOST hotels on the stip are doing the same thing but yes....it is last minute [called a short booking window] and we are doing it thru special offers which are then cut off on the last days and YES, they are gambling significantly less the prior years but it is slowly increasing.

Good one!

I was half right...if the 3 generations of Binion's (Jack Sr., Jack Jr. and Jack Binion III) are running the joint.
