Yes, but they go to pray...not to play.

Exactly. Whenever I'm on the Strip for an event it looks pretty darn busy to me!

Used to be Vegas was amazing because it allowed gambling-now it's legal most everywhere. So what can we do to regain our edge?
1)Legalize gay marriage.
2)Legalize marijuana.
3)Legalize prostitution.
4)Lower drinking age.
Any chance of any of these happening?

Vegas hasn't lost it's appeal, but it has lost its value propisition over the years as it has gone more metropolitan and upscale.

Just about everyone I know who has witnessed this evolution tells me how they enjoyed Vegas more prior to corporate rule. Now, the casinos spend more money on consultants when it's really quite simple...they need to treat the customer with a personal touch.

The move towards knowing every red cent a customer spends is beyond stupid. Want a discount buffet? Sign up for our card, so we can monitor you and your spending. Total Customer Awareness. And you know what? It's BS! A big gold casino on the south side of town is using their electronic billboard to get customers excited about the cheap, Chinese import crap they can win in giveaways. A waffle iron, a toaster, a sit and spin. Who is running the show? Who?

People travel to create memories. Too many people are coming here and feeling the gouge, the corporate slant and leaving feeling jaded. This is my observation.

Unfortunately, I think Las Vegas would be a very easy target especially since our airport is located smack dab in the middle. It's mind boggling to think that we have 3 million people extra here on average each month. People come here from all over and easily have access to the city.

I dont think Vegas will ever lose its "tourist appeal", but I think its definetly losing its gambling appeal. Most of the hard core gamblers I know (which really isnt many) would rather go to the local indian casino and gamble every weekend, than save their money and go to Vegas 2-3 times a year like they used to.
Millions of people will still come for the great weather and the excitement of the strip, but most die hard gamblers would rather skip the 4hr plane ride and lose their paychecks at home.

You validate my point. The slot carousels used to employ good looking women who a customer might be able to go up to and ask "so which slots are hoppin? Which one hasn't hit in a while?"

Of course, the answers they would give are utter BS, but at least they made people feel like they had a chance. They would get to know your name, get you a comp if you threw $500 in a machine. People were taken care of. That girl in the carousel was lady luck.

I had a ditsy dealer wipe the table clean after I won and not pay me out. I asked the floor manager to review the play. He paid me and said, "we don't care, you're going to lose it anyway." This is the smug attitude that is given to anyone but the highest level players. I gamble maybe once a year, so I want it to be fun.

If you can't roll at $10-15 dollars a hand, some places don't even want your money anymore. Its pretty disgusting. They want to mainline it out of you.

I know who the casino is beholden to now, and thats their shareholders and Wall St. I don't have a problem with that, per se. They need to perfect the art of acting corporate without making the customer even aware of it. It's the ultimate illusion. They used to have it down pat, they have since lost their way.

It hasn't lost it's tourist appeal. People are just coming here and spending way less for obvious reasons.

Unbelievable! I sure hope you got up and walked away, as you threw her a 3-cent tip!
