Default Stay in Iowa

Las Vegas may seem glamorous Chris, and it's actually a good place for people to live who are working in their careers and reaching for specific goals, but, 18 is just too young to throw yourself into Las Vegas with no prior job experience, no resume history or life experience, and little understanding of what life in such a town is like. You're likely to end up in a minimum wage job paying too much rent for a hole in the wall dilapidated apartment somewhere near the Strip and only be able to afford areas with high crime. Also, you have to consider that auto insurance rates are very high in Las Vegas (high car theft/accident rate), and registration is very expensive too. You'd be back in Iowa a disappointed 19 year old totally broke and possibly in debt. Stay in Iowa. If you're looking for adventure, move to Des Moines for awhile or a place not too distant and start school and look for a job in that area. Take advantage of being an Iowa resident now and get your basics out of the way at the local junior college. Don't transfer to a four year college or university until you're a Junior - it'll save you a lot of money. Also, think about what your major is going to be and if it's really worth investing four years of effort and $ into. If it's a liberal arts major, you're going to be wasting your time for the most part. I know I sound negative, and I don't mean to throw cold water on your parade. I understand the desire to get out of one's hometown and see the U.S. or world. I left my home in rural California when I was 18 and joined the Navy and ended up around the world. I've lived all over the USA and am currently, by choice and design, living in the Springfield, Missouri area. But, I really think you could do a lot better getting your feet planted where you are and then, after school, making the move to test other environments, including Las Vegas if it still appeals to you then. Good luck

If you want to be close to Las Vegas, Nevada and have low crime rate and the stuff you need for life and some things you might want try thinking of moving to Boulder City, NV nice peaceful city, low crime rate,a few hotels and motels,no gambling allowed in the area, and much other stuff that is good about Boulder City, Nevada.

Chris, you have to be 21 to gamble and go to (most) clubs. They card like mad out there. I'm 32 and I get carded for cigarettes, liquor, and gambling when I visit Vegas. You still have 6 years before you can do these things you are looking forward to. Its great you are trying to set goals and make plans, but it'll all come in time. Enjoy being 15 while you can!

You don't care about crime??? You just don't want to be robbed or carjacked or murdered??? You need to stay in Uowa where it's safe! There's nothing BUT crime in Vegas!!! A young thing like you would get taken advantage of so fast your head would spin ... and when they're through taking advantage and chewing you up they'll just spit you out like you're trash. Stay home!

1. What kind of education do you have? At that age not much of one so don't expect a high paying job. You will likely work in the service industry making a low wage. There are tons of low paying service industry jobs around.

2. Depends upon what area of town you want. Over by Red Rock Casino is going to cost more because it's much nicer over there. The east side of town will be cheaper and not as nice.

3. You said "18 year old kid"... you will be moving and living on your own, you won't be a kid. What to do? Work, pay your bills, stay out of trouble, continue your education.

4. You can own a gun in your home and use it for protection. If you want to carry a gun you must complete concealed weapon training and be registered.

5. One year.

6. The best areas of town are the West (Summerlin) and Green Valley. I don't know what urban clothing stores are.

A word to the wise - you have only visited the strip it sounds like. There is much more to this city than the strip.
