Looks like the old Chicago and Alton RR passenger depot off Chrysler right around Woodlawn and South Avenue and subsequently moved to off Pacific at the old Waggoner Gates office.

If it is, I sure did not know that it was that run down before they restored it. But I guess, it might have sat vacant since 1961 when the last passenger train came through.

There use to be a sign along the rails that said something similar to "Home of Harry S Truman, 33rd President of the United States."

The Blue Springs Chicago and Alton depot those folks are wanting to restore is in much better condition but built many years later, though.

Previously, on this thread was a photo of the Crane/Walnut RR crossing in 1930. It was originally the Lexington Branch and is now the Pixley Spur. I dont think I ever heard Crackerneck Spur connected with it but anything is possible.

Peggy Atkinson probably. They lived three houses west of us on Walnut Ave.

I copied this from Missouri Railroads, Passenger Stations and Stops.

The stops are on the Missouri Pacific Lexington Branch in Jackson County. Curiously Lexington is not shown as a stop.

Mile post (apparently from St. Louis)

268.3 Buckner
271.9 Lake City
274.2 Elko (Little Blue)
277.1 Adams
277.8 East Independence
278.7 Pixley
281.4 Liberty Street station, Independence
282.2 Grand Street station, Independence

So it appears that East Independence did have rail service in the old days. This was a milk run but back in the old days before the day of the automobile, milk runs were probably the norm.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

The Chicago & Alton Depot was built in 1879, and served passengers until the last passenger train stopper there in April, 1960. The RR still used the building until 1972 for telegraph operators and as a layover lounge for train crews. In February 1996 the depot was moved to its new home where it was restored from 1996 until completion in 2003. It is now open for tours.

It is the oldest surviving depot in Missouri, and one of only two two-story depots. The station agent and his family lived upstairs.
