As I was sitting at a red light tonight at the intersection of Southside and Beach Blvds., I looked over to my right at the car that pulled up. And to my astonishment there was a scene for a Jacksonville Christmas Card!

It was a middle aged woman and her husband (?) in an 80's model oldsmobile. It appeared as if the woman was in her pajamas while the man was wearing a heavy construction jacket. I then noticed that the woman was wearing a santa hat, smoking a cigarette (in fact it was hanging out of her mouth), and appeared to be yelling at the man (possibly her husband)! It was picturesque seeing the smoking middle aged woman yelling at her husband while quasi dressed as Santa. This scene brought me warm feelings for my first Jacksonville Christmas!

Yes my friends Merry Christmas from Jacksonville.....Merry Christmas!!

Driving into a WalMart parking lot at 6am and seeing a black guy about 23 or 24 with a big smile on his face a he wheeled out a little shiny yellow bicycle with training wheels. Made me smile, too.

HaHa....Who said J'Ville and the rest of NE Florida doesn't have any culture or character? It has a culture and character(characters) all it's own.
That's why I love about this area! Merry Christmas

Well, for one, everyone is only recognizing Christmas.

So my family and I go to the St. Augustine ampitheater for the ice skating extravaganza the other night. It was 78 degrees. First, we decided to go on the advertised "sleigh ride". Well, it was a sleigh, but it was on wheels, pulled by two horses named "Chicken and Cow". The ride took us down a few dirt roads with some lights strung thru bushes and several Christmas blow ups. I'm sure the driver was "Little Richard".

Then on to the ice skating rink. I have never seen such pathetic ice skaters in my life. Everyone falls on top of each other in massive heeps or is hanging onto the wall for dear life. All the while Queen, Rolling Stones and the like is blasting out of what really is a great sound system.

The real reason we went was to see the "snow" that falls each night at nine. Yes, white stuff is falling all over my head alright, but it doesn't resemble snow, not even the artificial kind. It turns out to be frothy bubbles of some sort...Oh hell, who cares. It's white isn't it?

Sound like a disappointment? No way. We had a fantastic time. This is how we do Christmas in NE Florida by golly. Again, who said we have no culture? Merry Christmas
